advice on getting 02' diesel

I am looking to getting a used 2002 dodge 4x4 ext-cab long bed with about 150,000 miles on it, with diesel of course, but my question is, are these older models always this noisy with dodge models or is there a way to quiet the engine down? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I have only had experience with ford diesels and I really don't remember my 7.3 being that noisy when we had it and especially the newer engines with ford or dodge for that matter. Also is it true that the dodge diesel has a over flow/over pass canister(sorry could not remember what it's called), filter thing, or something in that nature that needs to be drained every time you change the oil, and of course I mean besides the oil filter. This guy told me it leaks from there only when he forgets to drain it after each oil change or is there something else wrong with the truck maybe? Any advice would be appreciated it. :argh:

thats called your blow bye tube you can keep cleaning it or just make a longer hose so that it dumps on the ground, for noise there load for a reason ha ha but i love the noise

i ran mine to the ground, prolly one of the best mods to this date :U:

as for the noise adding a il 2 stroke to the fuel quiets it a little, but you can still tell it's a cummins. i also love the noise

it should be a great truck but you will need to look at fuel pressure and see how that is. What trans is in it, and if an auto any work been done to it. Adjust the valves and you should be good.

is the 53 block a problem with the 02's?

02 was the best of the 2nd gens, 4 wheel disc, abs, quad cab. The only problem is the fuel supply to the Ip. As far as the noise, that's the best part! Add a quart of 2 stroke oil everytime you fuel and that will really smooth the beast out. There is a small oil catch bottle in front of the engine that needs to be drained every oil change but there are ways to mod that to fix that problem. https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-2...vent-bomb.html

Injectors quieted my 24V down at idle, along with the other mods you could definitely tell at idle it was quieter next to a stock 2nd gen.

If the price is right buy it. Ensure you have good fuel pressure (plan on buying an Airdog 1st thing if it doesn't have one). Extend the breather tube and clean the front of the engine and radiator good. At that mileage a stock auto is close to done too as others have said. Still a great choice of the 24v trucks though. I'm close to 120k on my 01.5 (very similar to 'o2) and still loving it.

this guy is asking $13,000.... what do you think to much or to little....it looks to be in very good shape as far as body(no visible rust which is good for a northern truck)and interior goes. the only thing i saw wrong was the a/c-heater vents through the defrost mode only. what is the common fix for that?:U:
