HELP! Want to get the best for my buck....

Ok, I've bugged you all a hundred times with questions and tips for my 01' 24v, and I think i have finally decided to make some huge purchases for some nice, big upgrades, soooooo now I ask for some opinions on which you feel would be the best route. First off, I'm dealing with the following: 01' 24v Cummins, 106,000 miles, 4x4, Quad-cab, Automatic. INSTALLED: MBRP 4" stainless dual exhaust turbo back, Edge Juice w/Attitude and Module, ATS 3-piece Exhaust manifold and ATS High-flow air intake, K&N Cold Air, and Bosch 300hp injectors. STILL TO INSTALL: FASS 95gph fuel pump. What I am currently looking at buying: ATS Aurora 3000 or 4000 dual ball barring turbo, ATS High performance billet transmission, Fluidamper, and if I need them, headstuds. I think with the current upgrades, I went from 283hp to roughly, 400+, but have yet to dyno and be sure, but thw 28th the NHRADA is coming to town, and for $75/3 runs, I will find out for sure. I'm after a solid 500hp or so, with use as an everyday driver, that will perform at the track if I choose to put it there from time to time, but still retain the look and functionability of a daily driver. So let me have it guys, what do you think and suggest????????

Without a doubt transmission next... Any of the other mods above what you have now will not be fully utilized without it and leave you stranded sooner or later.... Look into Goerend transmissions, top notch stuff.

X2 or Suncoast

Like Red Rattler said tranny first then get that fass installed. And then some bigger injectors

I too would agree looking into gorend or suncoast is a good choice, and how much does the ATS Aurora 3000 or 4000 run? You could also get a nice s300 to make your goal of 500hp too not sure how much you have in your budget.

scottsjeeprolet 03-08-2009 08:42 PM

Just because ATS & Banks have the biggest ads in the mags doesn't make them the best.
I'd go for a Goerend Transmission Incorporated Or HTS, DTT or Suncoast.
My vote is for Goerends, best customer service you can get.:U:

KSStew 03-08-2009 11:44 PM

Well the ATS isn't a choice vecause of how big their ad might be, but because I have read and seen great reviews on them and their products, so its not about the name "scottsjeeprolet" if you were thinking that! As for Suncoast and Gorearend, I completely forgot of those. Price, well no one has tons to spare, but I believe in getting the best for each dollar, so Im good about researching and comparing prior to purchase, and if its the best deal, then I will pay. The Aurora 3&4000's are running thru XTD about $1200-1500. And as for the FASS it needs to be installed before or after the tranny wouldn't you think just so I can atleast NOT starve my pump with what I have now??? I may be wrong....But I agree the tranny first for sure..

DTT for the trans.

Get the fuel system fixed, pick your poison.

ATS turbos? I would look real hard at II or HTT. All the ATS turbos I have seen lately are non wastegated. So, we have to build custom external gates to work with our twins. Honesty, it's cheaper and easier to have the gated turbos in the first place.

Hey fishing, thanks, i was unaware of the none wastegate apps, maybe i should just contact you and go from there....but thanks all the same i will check into all that you mentioned

scottsjeeprolet 03-09-2009 06:25 AM

You can just call me Scott:sen:, just trying to help. Didn't know how new you were to the Diesel scene. A lot of the newbies tend to think the the guy with the biggest ads gotta be the :":BEST.:":
Do you homework and make your decisions based on your research. I know personally that Dave Goerend is the only tranny guy that will answer his phone on a Saturday when you have a problem. Never heard anything bad about them.
ATS on the other hand, good tranny, lots of guys run them, but warranty issues seem to be hard to get resolved.
:c:

Yea, I would steer away from ATS. I've heard some bad juju from them as far as service after the sale. Their transmissions are great, just a tad overpriced compared to Suncoast, Goerend, or Garmon. As far as turbo's call up one of our vendors here. I would suggest an HTT 62/12 for what you're looking to do.

GET THAT FASS ON THERE!!!! I would take time off to put that on ASAP:ph:

01quadcab 03-09-2009 11:22 AM

you could get a quote for everything your looking for right here lots of vendors to give you prices. a few of my buddies have had issues with ats products and will never run them again. I would go a different route.

Yep deffinetly do something with your tranny, she aint gonna hold up long with all that power.. I went with DTT tranny, do I like it, yes, it works perfect, but thats me. Deffinetly do some homework on it. I have a 62/12 High Tech Turbo on mine, I just ordered a 13cm stainless steel Exhaust housing for it. according to HTT, the 13cm S.S. will spool up just as fast as a 12cm and have the big power on top end like a 14cm housing.. its win win situation, except for my wallet! $600 just for the exhaust housing!! I cant count how many times i Emailed High Tech Turbo... dont be afraid to email these companies, they all want your buisness!!
so far Lukesdiesel has been the best for me!:yeah::yeah::yeah:

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-09-2009 02:47 PM

IMHO if I had a Auto trans it would get either a Suncoast, Georend or possibly a DTT. I prefer Industrial Injection Turbos for the price. Depending on what you use your truck for look at a Phat Shaft or Super Phat Shaft Turbo.

I recommend giving Dave Goerend a call, I will put one of his Trannys in any diesel I ever get. I had a problem one night and sent him an email, next morning I get a strange number on my call display and sure enough it was him, walked me through a few things and took the time to answer all my questions, turns out its electrical not the tranny!!
I would also look into Garrets Ball bearing turbos, I can't belive how fast mine spools. I pulled up beside my buddys srt-4 and from the light I lost about 5 feet off the line then caught up and walked right past him!!
Good luck, make sure you do your homework and are comfortable with what your buying, in the end its you thats paying for it and you that will be using it.:U:

KSStew 03-11-2009 06:47 AM

TOO ALL OF YOU- you guys gave me alot to consider and I thank you tons. I will take into consideration and serious thought everything you all mentioned. I appreciate it.......

Always appreciate the kind comments.

We are a DTT authorized rebuilder BTW, so we are bringing the best to the business!

Well just an update, had a few things take place since I started this thread, first being my Edge Juice taking a crap. I gotta hand it to Edge though, for it being a 2 yr old programmer platform, they first tried fixing and updating it for $50, which now their price is $100, and then when they found that it still wouldn't repair, in the mail I recieved a BRAND SPANKING NEW one, and all I have to do is send in the prepaid box with sticker, the old one and the deal is done. Now that's some service I would say. So now I have to get it put back on, and while all this was taking place I lifted BB(Big Black) up 5.5" and put new 35" Nitto on her. So still havent' done the tranny, or the FASS, but the FASS I plan to do in the very very near future after I put the Edge back on. One last thing I am adding in the process, a set of Silverline Black Stainless striaght cut 5" stacks w/ rain flaps. The lift screwed up the dual exhaust I had, and no one close seems to have the right bender to handle 4" diesel exhaust. So ya, that's the latest. Jim with Texas Diesel Performance backs everything you all recommended for trannies and turbos, so I found a dealer close enuff who not only is cheap for installation, but pricing period. Its all he does at his shop is diesel upgrades. Thanks everyone.
