well e big green is down again.

two weekends in a row my truck has let me down and needed a tow home. but this time it wont be a 16 dollar gasket no matter what it is. i was headed home this morning about 9 a.m. i was doing 60 and started to accelerate at about 1/8-1/4 throttle and hit 65 then bang. knock knock knock knock knock. i got it to the side of the road. it is whte smoking at idle, very low power, and knocking real bad. i pulled the valve cover, push rods are all in correct spots, valves where there supposed to be. pulled intake off and checked turbo, barely any movement on the shaft. thinking its either a headgasket, injecter problem, or the rod bearings are shot. what do yall think.

cumminsman65 03-01-2009 10:28 PM

I think id give up bro lol aint got a clue but i can help tear it down

xzaq103 03-01-2009 10:44 PM

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

xzaq103 03-01-2009 11:14 PM

biged681985 03-01-2009 11:17 PM

good luck? wtf is that. ive never had that

94cummins12v 03-01-2009 11:21 PM

welcome to the club

Bosshogg 03-01-2009 11:21 PM

Ed, the white smoke is what made me think VP. Since its locked up now, its either #6 has welded itself to the wall or the bearings are spun. Either way, start with pulling the pan and checking the pickup for metal. I'll check back with you tomorrow night.:c:

xzaq103 03-01-2009 11:55 PM

I was thinking #6 earlier:argh:

Look at it this way ED. you can build it up for to make more power!

Does that make you feel better?
:pals:

94cummins12v 03-01-2009 11:56 PM

no need to pull the pan, pull the plg and stick you finger up in it and scrape the bottom of the pan if no metal im thinking it will pee a f'ed up piston and cylander

biged681985 03-02-2009 12:23 AM

i got to put an oilpan gasket in it anyhow. not matter what, when i pull the plug to drain the oil i will see if it has metal plakes in it.
thanks for the suggestions. keep them coming

94cummins12v 03-02-2009 12:25 AM

im thinking you will have to pull the head to get a better look at thinks. i got a head removal down to 1 1/2 hours now since ive done it three times in the last 3 months:argh:

jamiewood 03-02-2009 01:13 AM

Drain the oil, see if there are any metal contaminants. If there are then pull the head.

Time to PPump!!!

br1223 03-02-2009 07:56 AM

biged681985 03-03-2009 12:41 AM

94cummins12v 03-03-2009 12:46 AM

any luck ed

F250Hoss 03-03-2009 08:59 AM

Good luck im having the same kinda problems with my powerstroke, And im about to start tearing that thing down :ouch:

biged681985 03-03-2009 12:20 PM

i strongly believe it is a dropped valve.
i just went out and spun the motor backwards bout an 1/8 turn and spun normaly. tried to start it, got to where it was at and locked up again. if it was bearings i shouldnt have been able to spin it backwards. now i just hope i didnt hurt the piston or cylinder wall

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

didnt get to pull the injectors before i some what figure out the problem. got the intake elbow pulled off and there was a little oil residue in the gully there, stuck my finger in and found a quater of an exhaust valve sitting there. 100% sure it needs head work. bout to pull the head off hear in a few minutes. #3 rocker arm is down way to far on the out side exhaust side so i know that one at least is down.

need help 6.7 03-03-2009 01:49 PM

dang sorry to hear that call if ya need any help:c:

biged681985 03-03-2009 02:03 PM

just got turbo and exhaust manifold. #3 is heavily coated in oil. but the best i can tell the turbo looks ok. gonna get injector lines and then pull the head.

oklahoma_6speed 03-03-2009 07:43 PM

big ed... i dont have pic mail...... post on here.. the eat up piston.. i wanna see the hole in #3......

biged681985 03-03-2009 08:26 PM

id post it up but every time i do people say they cant see it cause its to small. so maybe if some one i sent it to that can get them up and have them come up to the right size, id appreciate it.

but ya i have two valves break off and eat eveything up. one valve pushed up past the valve seat. the piston is ate up real bad. dont look good at all. im gonna try to get by with swapping a piston into it, and having the head reworked.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-03-2009 08:28 PM

Benjamin 03-04-2009 07:58 PM

Ed i found your problem..... too many valves.....lol

dude that sux for sure..... i'd be looking for a new motor to set in there and then piece together a monster motor with that one....

scottsjeeprolet 03-04-2009 08:32 PM

:WTF: Caused that? Why did it drop 2 exhaust valves?
Good luck on the build.

BlackDodge 03-04-2009 08:41 PM

Yep , Ed seems to be something wrong!
You might want to relocate those valves that are in the piston into the head?:w2:

Good luck with the repair buddy!
