Engine barely runs and im along way from HOME!
Truck ran fine. stopped and fueled up. Immediately it bogs and misses at 50 mph. wont go any faster. Sometimes it will get a dead pedal. Sometimes it will only go 30 or 40 and misses every second feels like im driving on a rail road. Steep grades bring it down to litterly 5 mph. And it blows blue smoke.
Codes 1682 0500 1694 1693 1687 And i bought a scan too and it says a 0216 and one about the turbo boost i forget the rest. I barely made it to Butte mt. and got a hotel and goin to the dealer in the morning. Anyone got any ideas? |
VP44 is DOA ! Do you have a Fuel Pressure Gauge?
|
had one but took it off cuz it smelled up my cab. the ip is 2 years old. maybe 10,000 miles. Do they take alot of dumps even with a fass? i thought that "fixed" it
|
Still need to monitor Fuel Pressure , And you dont have to run diesel in your cab , use an isolater if your mechanical or just use an electronic gauge , Your Trucks going in Limp mode so you can make it home ,
P0216 Is the VP44 Death Code :ouch: |
We can set ya up with a nice kit that includes everything and this includes the isolator.
Sounds like time for a new VP :argh: |
You didn't get bad fuel did you? Smell the filler neck and see if they gave you a mix of diesel and gas. If so i hope you saved your receipt. I keep all my fuel receipts in the glove box.
|
Just because of the timing I would say bad fuel. I would also very strongly suggest that you go smell some of that fuel, sounds to me like you got a tank full of gas instead of diesel.

True.......... it is funny how it started after he filled up on Fuel :pca1:
|
P0500=Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
P1682=Charging System Voltage Too Low P1687=No Cluster Bus Message Other 2 besides the P0216 and possibly an turbo charger under boost condition code are companion codes. The turbo charger under boost code is probably why it went into limp mode. If it doesn't smell like gas, probably gelled up. If by chance you have an extra fuel filter, change it in the morning before heading off the dealer and see if conditions improve. |
I never smelled it. I will go do that. I got the receipt and it was about 150 miles put on it. I had a quarter tank and filled it up. Its weird cause sometime it will pull to 70 mph then start boggin down. Idles fine. If it is a bad pump, should i upgrade to a Hot rod pump? and how long does it take for them to get one to me?
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I do have a extra filter. Ill change it and see. Why would it gel up? its not terribly cold. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- K Smells like the fuel conditioner i put in it. No gas smell. It was doin this before the conditioner. Only code i get off my odometer is 1693 and only one off the obdII port is 0236. No more 0216. |
If you end up replacing the VP just go with a SO Pump. Such as a Industrial Injection or Blue Chip.
|
VP took a dump. thanks to Blue Chip got a special X next day. Dealership installed it and this pump rocks compared to my stock So pump. Thanks to everyone who helped and especially chip at blue chips.
Better fuel economy noticed right away. Only bad thing, when its cold its LOUD and you can tell it dont wanta run till its warmed up. More power too on the seat-o-pants dyno |
If you installed that pressure gauge poorly I can see why it would smell of fuel in the cab...
Mine has been in my truck now for over 5 years and not had a single problem with fuel in the cab... http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/person...sure-parts.jpghttp://mopar.mopar1973man.com/person...re-install.jpg No ISOLATOR here and no problems... I used 150 PSI nylon tubing... I hardly doubt that a mear 15 PSI is going to cause a problem...:w2: |
I tapped a factory banjo bolt on the pump and put the connector for the tubing into it. ran the tubing into the cab and to the gauge. it was a auto meter gauge, i think 0 to 15 psi. So it was at max pretty much most of the time. but the gauge started smellin like fuel after a little while.
|
If the guage was pegged all the time its possible to rupture the internal bourdon tube. Did it leak at all?
You should have had a 0-30 psi guage. |
It did leak a little. I dont remember where, as its been over a year since i removed it. I need to get a 0 to 30 gauge. I was pretty sure peggin it all the time was going to ruin it.

Should have never taken that guage out...:ph:....Hopefully you got bad fuel and it ain't he VP

I am - plastic tubing as well...5 years both on trucks and not leaking a drop, and the guages work like the day I put them in. |
I've been runnin since a few days after I bought this 99 new with no isolator. I'm on the 3rd guage since then and it sits outside mounted on the hood. The first one leaked the fluid out of the guage area but still worked, I changed it out anyway just to be sure. The 2nd one I changed while I was changin some fuel lines out for the same reason, just because. I run the cheapest ones I can find so I can't even say it's because of the high quality. The current one cost me almost $20 and it was the most expensive one of the three.
