EGT

On my recent 4000 mile trip, going thru wyoming and running 75 mph my egt alarm sounded occasionally on some of the longer pulls. Do you guys think that it was just because I was going 75 or do I need something. I had an overheat issue a while back, but pulled and cleaned the radiator and it solved it. I dont know about the EGT though. Seems like the intake and exhaust upgrade should have eliminated this though.

How hot did the EGT get?

My Edge is set to alarm at 1350. It would hit it and then bump back down. It never stayed any length of time above that.

What were you pulling? I know with my setup, I can get pretty warm in a hurry pullimg my 20' enclosed car hauler.

Any upgrades done to the turbo?

If you had the box on and running some RPM and had a stockish size turbo, it probably does not flow enough exhaust or air to get out of the way and allow for cooler temps.

More info about your setup would be needed.

It started to defuel when it hit the preset. Which is why it never went above the 1350 deg mark. Out of curiousity, what setting are you running?

First thing I do when I hook up heavy is turn the Comp off. Way to much heat way to fast for my liking and I've never found anything the mighty Cummins wouldn't pull in stock mode anyway, just not as fast maybe.:w2:

I played with the settings and figured out that I actually got the best fuel mileage in 3. My turbo is stock as well as the injectors. I had a 1400 lb cabover camper pulling an enclosed trailer with an 04 HD Wideglide. 3 people and their luggage. She pulled great all the way except for 3 places in wyoming with loooong grades.
My only upgrades are the magnaflow exhaust, FIPK Kit, Edge juice w/attitude and the new Goerend Tranny.
She averaged 19.8 on the way to Tennesse, empty. Added the camper and trailer on the way back and averaged 15.3 (Running 70-75mph both ways)

With that weight and those climbs a compressor upgrade is needed to cool things down. One of the sponsors here has got to have something.

Cheers
