what year? Go for the 6spd in the HO second gen trucks over the 5.

well im looking at 1999-2002, i like the older body style and there in my price range ($10,000) i didnt know they offered a 6spd and HO. im new to the cummins side of the diesel world.

how many miles is to much? 1,000,000 and it *might* need to be freshened up but it all boils down to the life it has lived. only towing at highway speeds its whole life is better than farm truck its whole life

at what mileage does things start do go out and break? on a 24v it's debatable on the injection pump as it depends on the fuel pressure it's seen it's whole life. some last 200K some last 30K it just depends on what life it has lived. 12v look that the KDP has been fixed. 4x4 the track bars go bad and cause the death wobble. 2wd balljoints are the weak link.

smart move. the 5 or 6 speed trucks have a higher HP rating than autos. if you can get an auto truck cheap enough plan on 2K-5K on rebuilding the tranny to last. price depends on what all you want to upgrade. 2K is good converter and valve body price range. 5K is built to the hilt range...

hope this helps

2001 Dodge 3500 cummins 5.9 turbo

i'm partial to 2wd myself but that 4x4 is a nice price....

slowtowpig 05-07-2008 06:12 PM

i like the 2wd but the 22.5 semi wheels dont fit. thats why i want a 4x4, i can run the 22.5s with the tall tires with only a leveling kit, and the rear profile is sexy looking.

Does this mean you are going to have to change your alias? :U:

2000 DODGE DUALLY 3500/CUMMINS DIESEL/EXT.CAB
2002 DODGE DIESEl
Dodge Ram 2001 4x4 Diesel

here I got bored and found you a few more you might like. There was a clean 2nd gen for sale at a local dealer here not to long ago 4wd, single cab, long bed, leveling kit, ranch hands, 5 speed only 80K on it and the guy was asking 9k for it.
