1998.5 is the first year of the 24V ISB (that's the motor) truck, regardless of the 2500 or 3500 rating.

In 2000.5 you may find the odd 6 spd but in 2001 they were a standard factory option and ONLY available as high output (HO). 2002 was the last year of the 2nd generation truck - it is what I have.

Problems are minor except for the fuel delivery in all of these trucks. The common things to watch for are:

1998.5 to 2002
Fuel Lift Pump Failure
Injection Pump Failure
Steering wobble
Steering sector shaft problems
Power steering pump failure

1998.5 to 2000
53 blocks

2001 to 2002
ECM rewrites (only 5 star dealers can do this)

2002
Antilock brake modules

Any one of those trucks you list is likely pretty good. Mileage on the motor is really good way up to 450,000 miles without rebuilds but the VP44 injection pump will likely NOT last that long without a real lift pump and a fuel pressure gauge. I would not buy a used truck that has any major power upgrades on it without a replaced VP44 and lift pump otherwise it will be the first thing you do. Well taken care of the VP44 can and does last a long time but given the slightest down fall in fueling and it will haunt you. Read the many posts about P0206 and other associated codes as well as no throttle response, white smoke, pour economy and that sort of thing...

If you need any help just ask.:pca1:

1995 Dodge Ram 3500 1-Ton Dually Cummins Turbo Diesel, NICE TRUCK!

If you like flatbeds and regular cabs then it looks like a pretty decent truck, especially for that price.

yeah, that's a nice looking rig. I was going to post that a friend of mine has his 95 for sale here in Tennessee. He wants 6,000 also (his is ext cab, 4x2 dually). The paint is shot, but the truck is in good shape. Has an ATS converter, and a few other mods.

BTW... regarding how many is too many... My 99 3/4 has 215k miles and pulls just as strong and runs just as good as any other that I've been in.
