24v fuel pressure question
my uncles about to buy a 2002 5speed standard cab,4x4, long bed 24v with 100,000 miles. He is scared about the lift pump going out and messing up the injection pump.so he is going to buy a fuel gauge to always watch fuel pressure, what fuel pressure should it always be putting out and when do we know when to change the lift pump.

Change the lift pump when you buy it, don't ever run it out of fuel, and I personally will not let my gauge drop below 8. I am not sure if there is a set in stone number. Mine stays 16-18 all the time, If it anywhere else I know I have an issue

3 Attachment(s)
service manual says 10psi+
Attachment 31883 service manual also says 14psi is when fuel is returned to the tank via overflow valve and approx 70% of fuel is returned basically to help cool the injection pump (and lubricate) Attachment 31884 Attachment 31885 so to me that says: 14psi - 23psi is about the ideal pressure range... stay above 14 and below 23 at all times and you should be in good shape. mine idles at 18-21psi (depends on if tank is full or not) and runs WOT @ maximum power level at 16psi... |
ok thank you guys will keep a watch on it

The return fuel regulator is set at 18psi in the VP44. I like to see 19/20 MAX at idle, allowing fuel to spill over the relief, allowing more flow through the VP, cooling the electronics just a bit more. Thant's what I like at least, to each their own.
