raptor lift pump problem

Hello I have a 99 dodge cummins with a raptor pump. Got cold enough a week ago to gell up. My truck started running tough. I hauled it home changed fuel filter but now my raptor is blowing fuses and sounds very weak compared to befor. I swapped relays and no diff. So is my pump bad?

Your pump can be service and is probably geled inside the gerator sprocket remove the pump and on the bottom take the four allen head screws out remove cover there will be the pump sprocket and the pump gear they should slide out very easy take them clean them being carful not to scratch or damage watch the oring when doing this when reinstaling make SURE it is clean use some good diesel when reasembling and slide the gerator sprocket back on the slide the outer pump gear back on making sure they slide toger nice and easy make sure oring is in groove clean the mateing surface and put it back togather allen heads need to be pretty tight and the reprime and you should be good also if possible blow through the feed line going to the tank to make sure its not clogged ...

The temp is in the 50s now so does gelled fuel unthaw or stay the same consistency once its gelled

lilmike1540 02-23-2014 09:57 PM

Once gelled it stays gelled

Ok thanks mike ill take it off and give it a good cleaning when I get home. Brake cleaner ok to use on it or just wipe it down and flush I with fresh diesel?

lilmike1540 02-23-2014 10:11 PM

Brake cleaner will take all the oil off witch is a bad thing diesel fuel will clean it really well and the pumps come with a oring kit to do this service as well incase the oring gets tore and your welcome

cummins addict789 02-23-2014 10:15 PM

Ok it was already on the truck when I got it so I dont have a spare o ring kit. Ill be real careful with it and let ya if it does the trick.

lilmike1540 02-23-2014 10:20 PM

Also does the truck have a fuel pressure gauge ?

cummins addict789 02-23-2014 10:27 PM

Has an adrealine v2 programmer on it. Shows my preassure I would like to put an actual gauge on it. Is there one I can put on the fuel filter houseing. Any suggestions for me. The programmer in the cab was sayin I had 69 psi pressure

lilmike1540 02-24-2014 08:31 AM

The raptor isnt strong enough to.produce 69 psi i would say get on ebay and buy a glowshift git there 230$ comes with pyro fuel and boost nithing rong with dual redundancy it is crucial to make sure you have fuel pressure to the vp as that is what kills them and depending on where the qaud is plumbed into the fuel system it will either be on the bottom of the filter houseing or on the inlet at the vp witch is the prime location but as i said fuel pressure is critical for vp life bellow 5 psi and you asking for a new vp above 10 psi at W.O.T is best your raptor is set at 17psi and can be raised

And totaly spaced this have you looked in your tank to see if its ok inside cause it also will not pump if gelled in the tank

cummins addict789 02-24-2014 08:48 AM

Ya its pumping fuel the raptor pump is pumping just sound real weak and not as loud as befor. The truck will stay running till the fuse stays blows then it chokes out. The raptor will prime normal but wont shut off once its runnin.

lilmike1540 02-24-2014 08:58 AM

Oh ok didnt know that i would after cleaning the pump change the relay to the pump it should be a standalone relay right around the engine fuse box is it mountad to the block or the frame the pump that is ?

cummins addict789 02-24-2014 09:06 AM

Frame I changed the relay already and nothin changed just need to clean the pump and hope that does it. If it doesnt im gunna call airdog and hope they will warranty it out

lilmike1540 02-24-2014 09:15 AM

Yea the only other thing that it could be is the ground and very very unlikly the ecm but i think you have all the ammo you need to take it down at this point and if you go to pureflowairdog.com there are a few troulbeshooting tips on electical side as well

cummins addict789 02-24-2014 09:21 AM

Ill keep ya posted after I clean the pump

oneil250 02-27-2014 09:02 AM

My Raptor 150 started blowing fuses last fall. I pulled the bottom plate off and inspected the gerotor assebly. Nothing obvious. Put it back together, tried it again, still blew a fuse. So I contacted Airdog, they sent me a brand new one. I havent put the new one in yet, just hardwired my pump to a relay in my fusebox so when I turn the key the pump is running. Still putting out good pressure so Ive just left it. :humm:
