The tappet cover gasket isn't too bad to do. Remember if buying the gasket from NAPA its called a "Cam Cover Gasket".

Basically everything on the driver side of the engine has to be removed. Injection pump, ECM, fuel filter housing, etc.

I've done one on a 1st gen. I'll tell you a injection pump puller is much better than a steering wheel puller.

I have used both the steering wheel puller and the factory cummins tool. It would be easy enough to have the factory tool made. It was just metal disk with a couple of bolts the fits over the pump shaft.
I second making sure the gear is on the top side of the shaft. Be very very careful not to drop the woodrif key into the timing cover when removing or installing the injection pump. It sucks bad to have to remove the timing cover to retrieve it. If you dont retrieve it it will destroy expensive gears inside. I have seen this happen. :argh:

I did just that ran to the local store and grabbed a steering puller to get it apart and worked ok.. Going out this morning to get it all back 2gether!! thanks again

K so that Part is all buttoned up!! I appreciate the help and now i have a drip from the feed line to the vac pump!!! oh boy thought I had it done up!!!!
