Check Engine Light

I bought a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 in April 2012 with 134k miles. The other day the check engine light came on and lost power, this sounds like a common problem. Changed fuel filter and the check engine light went off and it ran great. The next day started it and was letting it warm and I noticed a miss in the idle. Took off and it seemed fine, a couple of miles later the check engine light came back on and lost power. I could not get above 35 mph, also noticed that the lights were bright until I stepped on the throttle and they would go dim???:argh:

You'll need to check for codes. A simple code reader can be as cheap as $10, but can provide a significant amount of information. From there you can determine what the computer is telling you, and we can help you further from there.

Thanks for your response, I will check into one.:tu:

A lot of auto parts stores do free CEL code pulls as well, but a scanner is never a bad tool to have! :tu:

I bought a Actron AutoScanner OBD II Scan Tool CP9575 these are the codes that it showed P-606
P-234
P-123
P-382
P-121
What does this mean ????:td:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

PO-606 = Electronic Control Module Malfunction
PO-243 = Turbo boost limit exceeded
PO-123 = Acceleration Position Sensor Signal Voltage Too High
PO-382 = Intake Air Heater Relay 2 Control
PO-121 = Acceleration Position Sensor Volts Do Not Agree With Idle Valid Signal

daveO 12-26-2012 08:54 PM

Well P-0606 is a PCM/ECM Processor Fault. Usually a bad PCM. Did you get any freeze frame data?

Not yet, am planning on working on it this weekend. Work has been keeping me pretty busy.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

PO-382 Intake Air Heater Relay 2 Control was on the freeze data.

I'll do some digging while at work tomorrow, but it sounds like you may be having a PCM issue. Try checking for damaged wires around the PCM.

I am going to check all the battery cables and make sure everything is clean and check all the grounds. Thanks Dave !!

Checked and cleaned battery connections, cleared all the codes. Truck ran great, checked for new codes and found PO-382 Intake air heater relay 2 control.

daveO 12-31-2012 02:11 PM

Good stuff. I would keep running it, see if the codes come back. I wouldn't worry too much about the P0382 unless you start having problems with it starting in cold weather.

Thanks for all your help and advice, I could not have done it with out you and the other members from Diesel Bombers !! Happy New Year and be safe !!!:c:

Truck started acting up again, took it to the dealer. They said the whole bellcrank assembly had to be replaced,$ 850.00.

daveO 01-03-2013 07:41 PM

:ouch:

sjrvan 01-03-2013 08:32 PM

Would you ever think that the bellcrank assembly would cause all of that ???:humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

They seem to think that was the whole problem.

daveO 01-03-2013 08:58 PM

I mean, weirder things have happened. If it were me, I would get a second opinion. Take it to somewhere near you that specializes in diesels and get their input.

sjrvan 01-05-2013 09:10 AM

Truck is done the replaced the bellcrank assembly and TPS, came as one unit. The truck seems to run fine. I am thinking about putting on a Fass fuel system next.:tu:

daveO 01-05-2013 08:00 PM

Nice. Glad you got it running. :c:
