Slight Surging between 1500-1900 rpm

So I got my first Dodge 24v a week ago, switched over from my 7.3 with 330k miles on it…
Anyway, it has been running like a charm up until the other night driving for about an hour and I noticed my pick up slightly surging when I’m either holding a steady between 1500 and 1900rpm or under a little load, like going up a grade holding steady, you can just feel it surging a bit.

Seems to be most noticeable when I’m cruising in 4th gear

I’m not showing any error codes…

Any Ideas?

Nobody?

I read on another forum that it could be related to cruise control, but I tried it last night and it surges both with and without cruise control on.

Any Ideas at all?

Any other ideas?

:D I didn't read your sig, obviously... probably apps related, check codes? look up apps adjust or reset procedures

BioHazard2222 08-17-2012 10:18 PM

No error codes.... Could it be apps with no code? :humm: I really don't know...
Thanks again!!!

Mine surged like you were driving in windy conditions. It had no codes. I installed a Timbos APPS and it's perfect now.

BioHazard2222 08-18-2012 07:59 AM

Is there some way to test the apps before buying a new one?

BioHazard2222 08-19-2012 07:10 PM

So I read on a mother forum that if the problem still exists while using cruise, then it is not the APPS, basicly cruise controll by passes the APPS. Does this sound right?
Any other ideas of what may be causing this? :argh: :scare2:

I don't know about the cruise thing. Mine surged on cruise too until I changed the APPS.

BioHazard2222 08-23-2012 10:11 PM

Hmmm... I wonder if the APPS effect a Auto the same as a manual transmission... I tried resetting my APPS, and cleaning my ground wires (read somewhere that could cause this) and it's still surging... it seems to be getting worse. Ideas?

Start with the basics, fuel filter and test fuel pressure. Mine did this same thing for a long time then i replaced a "good" aftermarket APPS from carquest and replaced with direct cummins part. This fixed my surge.

BioHazard2222 09-04-2012 12:14 PM

Well... I figured it out... :jump: Someone before me put an inline fuel filter on the hard line between tank and engine, just a 3/8" inline filter. I replaced that and it runs better than it ever has (Since I've owned it, only a month or so)
I was really starting to get worried, I went to town twice this weekend (30 mile round trip) and wasn't sure I was gonna make it back, my pick up was bucking and snorting and coughing up smoke and not throwing any error codes...

Anyway, thank you to all who helped out!

Now on to some mods...

I think the next thing is air filter, the previous owner put on a Spectra filter and just sat it in the bottom half of the stock air box, so I need to fix that, probably BHAF is what I'm thinking, i'll need to do some looking to see what the best option for air box with the BHAF is...
Anyway, Thanks again!!!
