ATS Anybody

Have any of you guys ran an ATS torque converter with the A-518? Ive already purchased one and am kinda wanting to see what everyone thinks of them. If they like them, the increase in the mpgs and such.:humm:

ive never dealt with them but u can probly save some money going with a local shop since our non lockup tc's dont cost much. also just as a heads up if you get a thicker flew plate to put on while your in there you will most likely need a spacer to achieve proper clearances. u might need to even if ats or who ever you go with uses a thicker back plate on it too.

Being a local guy to ATS, they have a horrible rep around here. Had to rebuild the tranny in the boss' '06 that had an ATS converter in it. Found an ear snapped off the pump drive on the converter when it was pulled. Our tranny guy said it was from improper install on their part. I have other examples, but I wouldn't use anything from them. From all the stories I've heard, they are somewhat shady, selling parts that aren't needed, bad customer service, etc.

I already have a thicker flex plate in from last year when i twisted the center out of the stock one. The torque converter in it now is toast. I was going to wait till this summer to get the tq converter and trans kit, but the rear main started to leak about 2 weeks ago. Its not terrible, but its enough to drive me crazy, so I bought this Ats tq converter and am waiting on it before in drive the truck. Cant stand oil on everything on the bottom side and tail gate.

i hear u on the rear main leak. i ran my truck with it for a long time. at least it undercoated the underneath so it didnt rust in the mean time lol. u may need a spacer then to put between the tranny and adapter plate.

Haha that would be one way to look at it. Im looking into the spacer deal but all the guys in my town that are runnin an ats tq said theyve heard about it but once they put the converter in siad it wasnt needed. In my case i might get it just to be on the safe side:tu:

PATC transmission sells the spacer and new dowels. I think it's 70-80 bucks

you would know if you need it probly right away. i couldnt even turn my motor over by hand at first so i deffinetly knew i needed it. ya i got mine from them. its not a bad buy from them. i figured mine woulda had better craftsmanship tho. i had to reem out 3 holes to get it to line up.

It's definitely a piece made in their own little shop, it's not like it's a CNC piece. It does the trick tho.
