tapping noise in top of engine

I noticed a light tapping noise today that I don't rember being there before but it still runs fine I was wondering if the overhead might need to be ran or if someone else thinks it might be something else?

check the valve adjustment and if you have been running your engine oil for a long time like 5K + then change it when you adj the valves

then again the 12V's tap and tick ALOT so it may be normal

Yah I may just be getting paranoid lol

big bad diesel 416 11-03-2011 11:44 PM

regardless I would check the valves it only takes about 20 mins

I tryed but I couldnt get the timming pin to ingage is there a different way?

big bad diesel 416 11-04-2011 12:25 AM

rotate till you see number one intake opens (the front one) then wait till both the valves are loose the adjust the correct ones mark the crank and rotate one full turn (all the way around) the adjust the other ones

sorry if I wrote that is if you had never seen under a hood before but you would be surprised with what I have delt with lol

by the way that timing pin is a bitch I have these http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog
the bend allows you to clear the bottom of the pump apply pressure to the pin and rotate off the crank back and forth just a bump in each direction and the pin should go thunk then to check that it went in apply pressure in one direction off the crank and you should not move it (be careful you can sheer it off if you try to move it to much) once your done with the first 6 valves put the pliers back on the pin and use a screwdriver to help pry it back out mark the crank and rotate one full turn adjust the other 6

this would be a good time to pull the pid all the way out (just pull it with the pliers) and inspect it for cracking or decay also check condition of the O-ring if all looks ok then lube the O-ring with white grease or a heavy oil then pop it back in with the pliers
