ve no power after 3200 gov spring install

we have a 92 here at work i been fighting with. this is the first ve ive been into. putting in a 3200 gov spring

i had to take the pump out to get the back bolt out because it was to rounded out to get it out on the truck. put everything back like it was as far as i know. the throttle index is back where it was.

i bleed the lines, and the truck fired up and idled perfect.as soon as u give it throttle it starts cutting out. it barley has the power to get it moving above 10-15 mph.

any ideas?

timing? fuel pressure? that is all I can think of as I am not a VE guy....

biged681985 02-09-2011 11:25 PM

shoulrd have good fuel pressure, brand new lift pump. timing, idk, i set it back to where it was and then i moved it a lil closer to the head which should be advanced.

the way its cutting out i dont think it would be timing unless the timing is ratarded.

you said it i didn't..... :tttt:

is the shaft keyed in the gear or is it just interference fit like a P pump?

biged681985 02-09-2011 11:51 PM

it is keyed like a vp

Benjamin 02-10-2011 12:11 AM

take the spring back out and see if that makes a difference..... that would be my next step, un-do what was done and see if it goes back to normal.

biged681985 02-11-2011 09:45 AM

throttle shaft was indexed right. i moved it one notch both ways and made it run like crap both ways.
i tried turning the fuel screw in 2 more turns just to make sure no change
i moved the timing closer to what should be stock timing, and it barely ran like it was severly retarded
called a pump shop, and they said it sounds like it has to be timing and i probably smashed the key way.
so i pulled the pump back out, and the key way was not smashed, and was lined up perfectly.
pulled tp of pump off and everything looks like its supposed to and no real way of messing it up
any other ideas?

Boost problem?.... Lots of lag and smoke? No smoke? Lopey Haze? This has me a little confused also.... I know this is a little different but my grandpas 24v had a problem like that, he could barely get above 20 mph, it was his lift pump.

biged681985 02-12-2011 12:33 AM

some how it jumped timing a full tooth, thats why it was acting like it was retarded cause it was

RSWORDS 02-12-2011 08:51 AM

Ed wish I had seen this earlier. Definatly timing as you found out. I have the tool at home to time it exact of you want it.

biged681985 02-14-2011 11:46 AM

hey bobby, i forgot all bout u knowing quit abit bout the first gen or id have sent u a msg. i pulled the front cover off is how i found out 100% that it was off a tooth. got it back in time, just gotta put the timing case cover balancer and fan back on and see how she does :tu:

RSWORDS 02-14-2011 03:13 PM

How is it now?

Something else to check would be air leaks. Even if fuel is not coming out air can get in.

Maybe the fuel shut off solinoid is falling apart and blocking some flow. Pull it, remove the soilinoid, reinstall and try again.

These trucks are STUPID simple, thats whay I can work on them... :D

biged681985 02-14-2011 04:38 PM

ive not checked the fuel shut off selinoid, but ive cracked the lines and it has nothing but fuel coming out. no air bubbles.

i thought maybe i had the throttle shaft indexed wrong, it was in the same spot as original, i tried moving it one to the left and one spot to the right with no change.

double checked to make sure all the timing marks were aligned, all were

is there any way to get the pump 180 degrees out?

RSWORDS 02-14-2011 06:29 PM

I'm trying to remember... 180 out though it should not run at all.

Just because you cant see bubbles does not mean they are not there...

RSWORDS 02-14-2011 06:30 PM

Ed your throttle shaft is 180* out... Take it back out and turn it 180... I cant believe it didn't click sooner, Jason had the exact same problem when doing his. :argh:

Begle1 02-14-2011 07:15 PM

Has this been resolved or is it another case of "I bent my governor lever by not pulling it out of the way before I tightened the fuel screw down on top of it"?

RSWORDS 02-14-2011 08:48 PM

That could be it Begle but I'm betting in the throttle shaft due to the truck running great at idle.

biged681985 02-14-2011 11:30 PM

the throttle shaft was never rotated. i did find out i mixed up the banjo bolt and the return bult not looking at them. just seen on looked like a overflow bolt for a p-pump and assumed it was the return bolt. boy was i wrong. im getting a new timing seal for the crankshaft and ill try it in the morning

biged681985 02-15-2011 11:22 AM

well it still wont start since i opened it back up :argh: it just cranks.

how would u go bout rotating the shaft 180. how could it get turned 180? looking insed, it didnt look like it could get turned that far. can u turn it while the top of the pump is still on it?

begle, what are u talking bout?

RSWORDS 02-18-2011 10:52 AM

I'll get Jason to hop on here... It was his truck that it happened too, I was just going by what he explained to me.

biged681985 02-19-2011 12:29 PM

i figured it out. i ended up putting the supply bolt and return bolt in the wrong spots :argh: got it runin good now :tu:
