Truck Shaking Real Bad

so i got the overdrive solenoid fixed put new tires on it and new transmission mounts and i still have this vehicle shake from 40mph up. its really bad between 40-55mph then tapers off but you can still feel it....thought it was tires being in bad shape so i replaced them, still the same problem, thought it may be in the powertrain so i found the tranny mounts squshed and mushy rubber, replaced and still have same shake. dont know which route to go, read about driveshafts being out of balance but how likely is that? shocks shot and so im getting leaf spring bounce? leaf spring bushings? motor mounts? bent axle? balljoints? bearings? dont know if any body else has had a problem like this or not i just dont want to throw parts at it and sink a lot of money in it. read some other threads similar but not really describe what going on with mine. it is 4 wheel drive

Block up all 4 corners and have somebody run it up while you crawl around underneath looking and listening.

in the front? how did you install the rims?

you have to use 2 tapered lugnuts to center the rim then install the remaining lugnuts, then pull off the tapered ones.

I'll have to take a lood at therim situation, the tire shop might not of done all that, but the rims are aftermarket 17" pacers

That just night be the issue, check what kind of lug nuts they used, if they are conical that's not the issue.

snakebite2004 08-04-2010 02:22 AM

ok, so i checked it out and the wheels fit snug with the lug pattern so that is correct, all lugs are conical. Took all wheels off, and retorqued using proper torque sequence. Still shaking haha. guess i will start with the cheapest parts and work my way foreward, like leaf spring bushings. Tell me what you guys think about this....if the shocks are wore slap out in the rear, would that cause is to shake? its almost like a side to side shake and you can feel it coming on and it starts to get harder and harder almost like everytime it bobs back it springs it to the other side and each time it slings harder and harder....am I thinking right or am i completely wrong. Havent pulled the shocks off yet to see.

check your kingpin bushings or balljoints

You have a case of Death Wobble coming on.

Is it 2WD or 4WD?

snakebite2004 08-04-2010 01:29 PM

king pin bushings? what exactly and where are those located? i'll check the balljoints. it is a 4wd. this is what i was afraid of...the dreaded death wobble i have read about haha

regor 08-04-2010 05:04 PM

My shocks are completely worn out on mine and i don't have that issue, if the wobble is in the back maybe a universal joint? If its in the front, death wobble new steering stabilizer should fix it and shocks
