Any advice on the KDP fix.
Hi all,

Yeah... Buy a front seal and make sure it comes with the install kit. I got lucky... Mine is in right.

Best kit is had from your closet!
https://www.dieselbombers.com/1st-ge...tml#post478933 Other than that they seem to be at most diesel shops. Throw a thread in the price quote and you should get several places. And Bobby is talking about the oil seal around the crank shaft in the front cover. The cummins part # is 3937111, just ordered mine earlier this week so that is the current # for the seal kit with the alignment tool.:tu: ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- LOCKTITE THE BOLTS TOO! ha ha Just to remind ya.:hellox: |
yea will do, i read that but, i might as well just buy the kit from source automotive diesel. it comes with the seal, the pin retainer, and the rtv gasket maker. i just don't know if a full timing case gasket is better than the rtv.

what do you mean by make sure it comes with the install kit. and does it matter if it is the full gasket or grey rtv gasket maker.

ok thanks for the help Bobby:tu:
|
are they anything i should change when doing this, or look out for.

Stuff a rag down at the very bottom to ensure that none of the junk falls down into the oil pan while your cleaning the surfaces. Make sure you get all those hidden bolts with some locktite too, and then make sure that crank:tu: seal seats right when ya slip it on.
|
yea i don't want to ruin the new seal
|
Can't remember what thread it was in but one of the guys kept getting just the gasket and it wouldn't go on right without the tool, didn't know about it and went threw several gaskets. So that kit should get ya taken care of.
|
the tool, is there a special tool to put in the gasket

Sorry, yes I was referring to the seal not gasket. Comes with a sleve in the inside of the seal to slip it onto the shaft and another piece to help you press it into the cover.
Thanks for the correction tltruckparts, I can see how I would make that a little confusing.:tu: |
so i should get a big socket, if i have one, and press it in that way
