getrag top cover question
ok so i changed out my top cover the other day when my old one crapped out. when i took my old one off, there was no gasket between the top cover and the housing, and it never leaked with the 90w that was in there. but now that i have a synthetic oil in there its leaking.
does anyone know if there is supposed to be a gasket inbetween the two or not? |
i used rtv to reseal mine when i had the tranny out for the clutch. no leaks so far

Would you rely on a pull-out method or wrap it?:humm:
The extra protection is worth the headache that comes from not using it.:scare2: ha ha ha |
thats funny:choochoo:
i just wanted to know if they normally use one because if they dont and mine leaks and no one elses does must have another problem somewhere. |
a rebuild kit comes witha gasket for the top cover and i assume they had one from the factory but i just use rtv and mine never leak.

i just did it today with rtv and so far no problems!

Early getrags used no gasket...
Later there was a TSB about leaks (amazing... no gasket and now we have leaks), so later Getrags got a gasket as well as some older ones had gaskets installed... |
the gasket acts as a shim and a seal it holds the shift forks up off the collars to prevent premature where and also seals the top of the case
