H1C Turbo Charger (Stock) How to Wastgate?

Does the stock H1C Turbo Charger need to be waste gated? Or does the intake side need to be waste gated? It always seemed like my turbo reversed when the intake pressure "released" back through the air filter. Is this true?:humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Well, my mechanic and I figured out the Cummins and Dodge Engineers have to know about this, and the fact of the matter its probably some kind of shock wave back through the intake through the intercooler and rest of the intake and out of the filter the stock filter housing just usually muffles it but when the filter housing is removed you can hear it clearly and the turbo is just slowed down abruptly and makes this noise I am talking about. No worries nothing to be concerned about so I'm not going to do anything about it, its all good, I believe.:rocking:

jdbigblue12v 09-09-2012 02:16 PM

the noise you hear when you go from W.O.T and let your foot off real quick is the turbo being forced from spooling in one direction at 150,000-rpms (not exact just saying) then suddenly being forced (when you let off) to spin in the opposite direction. there is a way to waste gate the h1c but your going to spend about as much as you could pick up a hole turbo like an hx35 off of a second gen wich is factory wastegated and solve your worries and have a more efficient turbo

bladeyamaha 09-09-2012 05:57 PM

Does the HX35 bolt directly on?:humm:

turbo2332 09-09-2012 06:37 PM

almost. you will need a different down pipe. also you could look for a hx35 or wh1c turbine housing and bolt that to your h1c and be a 12cm gated 54/60/12 vrs a 56/58/12 on a hx35/wh1c. that shock wave is also called barking the turbo. it will eventually wear out the turbo. the 1st gen turbos were not gated because they had humungus turbine housings so it is hard to over speed them, but that is why they are so slow to make boost. they are 18 or 21cm housings.

bladeyamaha 09-09-2012 06:58 PM

So, anybody got a HX35 for sale? A second gen manifold and a downpipe for a second gen for sale? lol:w2:

turbo2332 09-09-2012 07:19 PM

you dont need the manifold. i have the stock downpipe laying in the garage.

jdbigblue12v 09-10-2012 02:58 PM

you dont need the down pipe. its direct bolt on took me 45 mins to pull manifold/turbo as 1 peace and undid the intercooler piping and oil feed line. then bolted the hx35 to my manifold and reinstalled everything and started the truck. very easy to do and makes a decent inprovement.

I have an HX35 exhaust housing left over from a Banks upgade. Check to make sure it's what you'd need and let me know if you want to buy it.

turbo2332 09-22-2012 05:37 PM

what gains did you notice with the banks big head kit?

How do I check, I have no idea how to do this? What kit maybe did you use? I do actually think the HX35 housing is what they use to upgrade the exhaust housing for the H1C to tell you the truth.:rocking:

1stgenblowingsmoke 09-22-2012 09:37 PM

The exhaust housing off an HX35 will bolt right onto your H1C. Infact on 94 n early 95's they had a WH1C which is a a wastegated housing on an H1C. I run an HX35 with a non gated 16cm BD H1C Exhaust housing.

I wish Turbo2332 would stock giving false info. undo the clamp holding the exhaust hanger onto the pipe at your bell housing push the whole exhaust back an inch n a half bolt on the hx35 or the H1C with the HX35 housing tighten up the exhaust to the turbo then put that clamp back tight on the hanger.

Also if that HX35 was off a 24V the exhaust housing won't fit without doing some custom work on the down pipe but a 12V HX35 exhaust housing will connect right up to the stock 1st gen down pipe.

turbo2332 09-23-2012 12:30 AM

wanna hook trucks?

angelic0- 09-23-2012 08:09 AM

i have a whole HX35, but shipping will probably be killer !!!

bladeyamaha 09-23-2012 01:10 PM

I still stand to get quite a sufficient settlement from the medical portion from my claims from the accident, thinking about a Turbonetics Turbo now, a T58.:humm::yeah:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Not sure though, if its worth it, or something better and I'm not sure when that would happen, not sure of what kind of shape the H1C is in at all till Tuesday.:argh:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

How do you and is it advisable to put a HX55 on a 1st Gen Cummins?:humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Can I use this Holset HX35 to HX55 Adapter Dodge Cummins 12V 24V 5.9 Turbo Diesel Flange 1/2" | eBay to put the HX55 on my 1st Gen?:humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

How in the world do I put an exhaust on the HX55 on my 1st Gen though?:dang:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I so think I found my next turbo! Yeah, think I'll just wait on my settlement money and get the HX55, something about the ring of the name of it! :yeah:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

:c::w2:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Is a HX52 bigger than the HX55?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Guess I'll have to use 2 adapters too? T3 divided to T4 divided turbo flange adapter TO4E 5.9 cummins Dodge twin scroll | eBay

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Just got through looking at the HX52 and HX55 and the HX52 just isn't what I really want, not sure the HX55 is what I really want either. I want a ball bearing turbo, REALLY BAD!:tu:

Not particularly but I've corrected you like 3 different times on hx35 swaps. Plus Uh I got a dana 80 with posi out back with 12.5" wide tires all around and a locker in the front I gotta lot of traction lol.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Uh an hx52 is a lil smaller then an hx55 but non the less both will NEVER spool on there own especially not on a 1st gen unless you have some giggly juice to help.

Tell us what your mods are? I think if your looking at an wastegated housing for your H1C you could go with a 62mm upgrade n be happy with it.

bladeyamaha 09-23-2012 02:20 PM

Well, when I get done-there will be an after market Marine high flow fuel filter, a turned up injector pump that will support 375 HP, 7x .010 *148 injectors-at least, gauges, after the turbo-a new exhaust-whatever size it will need to be. Maybe head mods while I'm at it, not sure though, but probably. They are selling the flange kit for the HX55 to be bolted directly on. The HX55 supports between 295 and 500 HP, does it not?

HX50 Holset Turbochargers.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Maybe I need a HX50?:humm:

1stgenblowingsmoke 09-23-2012 03:26 PM

Even a hx40 on is hard to spool on moderate mods. I'd say for the time being get a cheap used HX35 and be good. Cuz if you get even a hx40 rightnow your gonna be hard pressed to spool it and just blow smoke. Then once you are ready to do the bigger mods then get a bigger turbo that can handle it.

bladeyamaha 09-23-2012 08:53 PM

Well I'm not putting a turbo on it till I do the mods. So will a HX55 work? I'm gonna call Holset tomorrow too. I gonna be running like 375 Horses.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Jacob is reputable engine builder and he says my engine will make 375 horsepower with the 7 x .010 injectors, maybe I'll just ask him.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

OK, so the hybrid HX35/40 is the way to go then?:humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

So do I need a T3 to T4 adapter plate for the HX35?:humm:

Okay gotcha. Yeah it should easily make that. Yes that's a good turbo but still not as nice as a H1c with a 62mm gillet intake housing n impeller. No you don't need a T3-t4 adapter all dodge diesels come with a t3 flange not a t4. Most actual hx40's have a t4 flange btw. But if your wondering an HX35/40 hybrid is an hx35 body and shaft with an HX40 intake housing and impeller.

bladeyamaha 09-23-2012 11:23 PM

I don't see that Gillett Diesel has a 62mm intake housing, they have a 60 and a 52 but not a 62mm. They have combos and a smaller cm exhaust, which exhaust would I want? A 16, 14 or 12? This is a lot of money to upgrade a H1C. Is it really worth it? Will the H1C really support almost 400 horses and not over spin?:humm:

1stgenblowingsmoke 09-23-2012 11:58 PM

Yeah my bad I meant 60mm. A lot of people like the 14cm but i like the 16cm sofar. A 12mm will choke out to much at like 350 hp I think it is.

Basically your upgrading the H1C like you do your motor. Will it support almost 400 horses? yes will it overspool no not if it's gated. Yes it's worth it for sure. Infact the guy with the world record for highest hp outta a VE only runs a 62mm turbo. and he's making 972 on the jug.

bladeyamaha 09-24-2012 07:15 AM

Thank you!:rocking:

1stgenblowingsmoke 09-24-2012 01:12 PM

Any time.

first-gen-tough 09-25-2012 11:26 AM

I know some about the second gens. On the first gens do they come stock with no waste gate? does this include the intercooled models to? :humm: thanks

Yup not a single 1st gen ever came factory with a wastegate.

bladeyamaha 09-26-2012 04:04 AM

Hey 1stGEN, I picked my truck today no slack anywhere in the turbo what so ever, like it came off the showroom floor! Never been rebuilt either, don't think I want to touch it at all, also did not have to buy tires for the truck, guess what? I'm getting an early suprise, 7 x .010 INJECTORS!:w2::jump:

1stgenblowingsmoke 09-26-2012 08:36 PM

Right on man Good to hear. Now I'm going strongly stress the fact of boost n pyro gauges when you start modding that thing they are essential. tranny temp to if it's an auto and watch that you don't abuse it to much or the stock clutch or tranny will say f you basically after a short while.

This is also something you should read before you go n try to change a tire.

That's cool, I'm out of money now anyways, had to buy a lot more parts than I expected.

That's alright things happen especially when you buy a used vehicle.

bladeyamaha 09-27-2012 10:09 PM

Yep.:rocking:

1stgenblowingsmoke 09-28-2012 02:10 AM

Mine had a crack in the pass side water jacket that I didn't see and it never leaked until the outside air warmed up as I bought it in January. Once the outside temps got warmer then engine ran warmer and once it ran warmer the crack would open up n leak. I got like 8 months outta the engine before it got un-controllable. That's how I ended up with a p-pumped engine.

Oh wow, I don't think I even remotely have possible problems like that.

Hope not in the end I tried everything possible n the only real fix was a new engine. I got the block outside maybe I'll snap u a pic later.
