My dad has done bodywork for 32 years and ive been in it my whole life too, only way to fix a "peeler" as they were known, is to sand all the way to the bare metal, if u dont do this you'll have horrible feather edge issues and rings in ur new paint, every bit of paint on ur truck has to be sanded off to do it right, if u take it to a good shop and u want a quality paint job dont be affraid to spend between 5 and 7 grand for an overall like this, they rnt ripping you off u will truley have atleast 3000 just in paint and materials to do one of these jobs so 5k is on the cheaper side 7k would be very high quality, food for thought

wow color combo looks crazy good on your truck so how many hours total do you think you have invested into prep and paint.

Maybe 225-250hrs, it's hard to judge i only worked on it in the evenings, weekends, and when i wasn't on a tractor.

I'm with 1stgenfarmboy I just got done repainting my 92 reg dually 1 ton and I have $350 in it and I sanded down to the bare metal and took the fenders and hood and doors off along with all the glass and grille and EVERYTHING, repainted the inside of them along with the inside of the cab and put everything back on and repainted the whole outside of the truck but I didn't repaint a bed the truck didnt have one when i bought it it had a flatbed on it. But I used Duplicolor Paintshop Paint
did primer then sand then reprimed then sanded then base coat white then light coat of pearl followed by 3 coats of clear then wet sanded and it looks AWSOME! And I had about 150 hours in it and $350 to $400 in paint and materials.

But it not a PROFFESIONAL paint job just a do it yourself money saver
