Turbo to Big??

Hey guys I was wondering if i could get your imput. I bought a Holset HX55 turbo for my truck and i was thinking it might be a little over kill. The truck is pretty stock. No fuel plate, star wheel cranked, 4" exhaust, cold air intake. So if you guys could tell me what you think that would be great. THANKS!

ltr450 07-25-2011 06:53 PM

yes that is way to big. you should just keep your hx35 on there. with the mods i have i run a super b turbo that is a 57/65/14 and it works great for me. if you are planning for more mods like injectors. if your hx 35 is running hot know try bumping your timming to 16 degree that will help on your egts and make sure you do a 4kgov spring to best mod out there for these 12v. make sure you tune your afc right to do not just roll it all the way forward will kill your spool up. there are some more free mods you can do to the afc housing like shaving and 1/8 off of the foot and cup washer in the housing. but for turbo you need to tell me more about what mods you are looking at

STDiesel59 07-25-2011 07:09 PM

Well i was planning on 191 DV's, 4kgov spring and injectors but not sure witch ones yet. thats it for now. Thanks for your help.

ltr450 07-25-2011 07:14 PM

i would go with sdx injectors. i would sell the hx55 and just get a 62/65/12 or a 63/68/12 if you plan on 90hp injectors or bigger

STDiesel59 07-25-2011 07:23 PM

I guess that wa a waste of money then:argh:. Do you have the website for them injectors? And thanks again for your input!

ltr450 07-25-2011 08:45 PM

southern diesel ex. they are one of the sponers ask for a price quote and tell them the size you want and tell them you want sdx injectors

Lostnwalmart 07-26-2011 05:58 AM

That turbo would serve you well with that hx35 in a set of twins. But as a single you would need a maxed out pump big injectors cam and head work.

^^^ this

With the right injector you could go with a larger 62 or even a 64 depends on your other mods.

The hx55 by itself will just be one word. LAG
I would say a decent sized 62 would do good things for what your after. Depends on what you wanna do with your truck.

I have a question that might sound stupid but what the measurments all stand for? Are the first two MM and the last one CM? Was thinking about the compound set up but sounds and looks hard. Any thoughts?

Lostnwalmart 07-29-2011 07:24 PM

1 Attachment(s)
The mm is the size of the inducer of the compressor wheel the second is the size of the exducer of the turbine wheel. The cm3 is the volume of the turbine housing, they use cm (cubed) and a/r ratio.
Attachment 40779

Also there are alot of different hx55's what did you get exactly?

STDiesel59 07-29-2011 07:49 PM

Well i was going out on a limb and trusted a guy off ebay. The little tag is gone but he said it ws a HX55. And he gave me a bunchof measurments in inches.

Lostnwalmart 07-29-2011 07:55 PM

We can work with that what were they? Pic of turbo ?

STDiesel59 07-29-2011 09:11 PM

Yeah i got a pic it said holset on it. the measurments he gave me were
Compressore bore 2.52"
Comprssore outlet inlet diameter 2.065"
Turbine Bore 2.890"
Turbine Housing 19 cm
And thanks for any help:jump:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

oops i mean outlet inner diameter!
Sorry!

Lostnwalmart 07-30-2011 12:50 AM

Actualy that may not be a terrible single...
64/71 with a .8-.9 housing.

captain_stabbin 07-30-2011 04:23 AM

Sounds like somethin cliff would runn lol

seandonato73 07-30-2011 11:52 AM

ooooo that be good single with a few supporting mods tad nig on exh housing tho

STDiesel59 07-30-2011 06:28 PM

So do you guys think i should throw it on and give it a try? What other mods should i do? And its non wastegated. i dont know if that make it any different.

seandonato73 07-30-2011 10:39 PM

***** sorry ment big

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

your gonna need a decent sized injector to get it to spool and even at that its gonna have a good bit of lag with that 19cm exh housing. but me being the oddball i am id give it a try

STDiesel59 07-30-2011 10:56 PM

I think i will. Now just need a down pipe and do you know if that is a T3 or a T4. the adaptor is only 20-30 bucks so that aint bad. and i was told 5.012 or 5.014 injectors would either be enough you think?
Thanks Again!

Lostnwalmart 07-31-2011 03:48 AM

Should be a t4 but I don't know without a pic. With that charger I'd say atleast 5x14's and some decent sized dv's. how is your tranny?

seandonato73 07-31-2011 09:19 AM

ditto on injectors its a 97 so it should have 191 dv's in it allready

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

unless its auto then its a lower hp truck

STDiesel59 07-31-2011 11:47 AM

Yeah its an Auto. Well i just paid 4400 bucks to get it rebuilt. Triple lock T/C billet imput shaft And a bunch of other goodies so i hope it can handle it.
It says my truck is 180hp.

Lostnwalmart 08-01-2011 12:05 AM

a 97 will have 181 not 191's and your tranny should be good :yeah::tu:

STDiesel59 08-01-2011 01:31 AM

Alright time to start BOMBIN!!:jump: Do you know if the HX40 down pipe will work with that? Or i can check it out. And what kind of fuel pump would you reccommend?

Lostnwalmart 08-01-2011 08:33 AM

it probably wont but might lol. i like my air dog 165

STDiesel59 08-04-2011 12:12 AM

does anybdy know where i can find a down pipe for a turbo with an exhaust housing with a 4.75" O.D and an 3.5 I.D?
