got a injector size question
so im going to be replacing the injectors in my 1997 cummins and the sales guy said go with a 500 hp bosch injectors. im not sure what this is meaning since iam new to deisels.the truck is all stock and going with bigger injectors would i have to do anymore mods to support the bigger size?

What turbo do you have? what timing will you be running? 500HP bosch injectors? where is he getting that info from cuz id love to find a factory bosch injector that is 500HP. Injector size is going to depend on what other mods are there.

If you are going to be throwing more fuel you might want to look into getting more air also or your exhaust temps will be high. You will also have to turn up your pump so it gives the injectors enough fuel. I'm also guessing these are the bosche 370 marine injectors
|
Bosch 370 Marines are only 370HP injectors.
|
So we are actually saying Marine 370's are 370hp? Um no afraid not.
|
Ive got a set of Marine 330s and they gave me about 40-50 horse if that...I really want to see where you get that high of "horse power" injector for those prices too.

If you want to get down to the nitty gritty of injectors the only 100% accurate way to name them is "Hole Count x orifice size" or percentage of flow over stock. Horsepower ratings give false hope to many as well as confuse people. But since so many go by Horsepower rating, it is total HP acheived not amount of horsepower gained over stock application. If that was the case, then a 5x0.014"(435HP) injector in a 160 engine would net 595HP, in a 215 650HP, 180 would be 615, and so on and so forth. Considering all P7100, VE, VP44, CP3, A3000, P3000, and any variation of those fuel differently because their original application vary so greatly it is redundant to label an injector as HP over stock rating. This is where the original HP rating for injectors is dependant upon original application and fueling needs for that application of that specific engine. |

Cant remember where I got it though |
Just to clear things up, because i think my reply was taken wrong. I meant no disrespect to you guys at LBDP and I know you guys know way more than I about injectors. I was trying to clear up to others that dont know that 140hp injectors for example dont add 140hp. Again sorry for any confusion. Also I assisted in the install of a set of your 5x.012's in a first gen and run excellent and smoothed things out a bunch.
