241transfer to 205
 
i have a 97 with nv4500 and 241 transfer. im wondering if i can junk for a 205? which 205 do i need, i know the first gen goes wrong way. so did dodge but 205s in 2nd gens. or do i have to use special adapters. i think toe 205 is a wonderful transfercase. any input appreciated.

As far as i know there isn't a 205 that will just bolt up in place of your 241. If your serious about the swap you can check out Advanced Adapters. They should be able to set you up with the proper adapters to make it work. You'll also need to find a Drivers side drop 205 from a Ford. Why are you trying to swap the 241 out?

i have never liked chain drive transfer cases, and the 205 is easier to to hook up pto.

The 205s are strong and are a popular choice in the off-road world. I'm sure there is a way. You might also post over on Pirate4x4.com I'm positive someone on there has done what your trying to do

I was considering an NV4500 and NP205 combo in my Fummins and this is the kit I was looking at. You may have to ask Advance Adapters if it works with the Diesel NV4500 (the site doesn't show this kit when you choose Diesel NV4500 HD in the dropdown). Worth a look if you are sold on the NP205 conversion...:w2:

I got a friend that runs a Ford NP205 in his 95 dodge with a 5 speed.....

Personally though, in the truck pulling world, NP205's blow up quicker than the 241DHD's do...... I think most of the bad rap for chain t-cases comes from the cases developing leaks, and running dry.... Just my theory.... I'd sooner step up to one of the NP271's they use behind the common rail... They're friggin huge!!!

Gear drive transfer cases are for the birds. Ever wonder why all gear drive transfers have iron cases? The reason is why they don't last under power.

Well, gear drive t-cases in general arent all bad..... You should see the profab units that major hp guys run for sled pulling..... But gas and diesel..... They are ALL gear-gear drive.... And billet aluminum cases.....

But yes, gear drive has major spreading forces between the gears, where chain drive will have a pulling force between them.. But compression strenght is usually stronger than tensile.....

Hey if you're still interested in the conversion NV4500.com sells adapters and has all the info you need for the NV4500. I have a first gen with nv4500 in my chevy. I know I shouldn't be in this thread. I was looking for p-pump info and saw your thread, figured i'd explain before I get run down. hope it helps

The case you need is the ford np205. has the correct drop and advanced adapters makes the adapter to go to the five speed.

Yep, Ford NP205 is what you need if youre gonna do it. My buddies is a 1978 model out of a 3/4 or 1 ton...

does anybody have information on adapting a np205 to the 47rh? the tcase is from an 84 chevy i think its the 32 spline and is a passenger drop. idk what spline count or bolt pattern the mopar is but my tcase is a six bolt round patter from a th400.

even if the 241 is stronger i like the 205. I have had 5 dodges with 241s and all will jump out of gear when runing on engine compression going down long very steep hill in low range and when this happens it is very hard to get truck stoped with 15,000 pound trailer. i have grown to dislike the 241. i go up and down a 8 mile 15deg grade every week and when that transfer goes bang you are like a rocket.

I have similar problems with my 241 and im also lokking to do a 205 swap. Its friggin annoying trying to drive in the snow with it constantly disengaging too i hate it
