cant decide what to do

cant decide weather i should restore my truck.. or sell it and get a commonrail. i LOVE my truck. but it needs body work and paint, it has 295k on her. i would either fully restore the body and go for 600hp or just sell it and get a commonrail. i just really really am not looking forward to a payment. what would you guys do?

Red_Rattler 01-08-2011 06:50 PM

If you love it, save the old girl and give it a make over with new colors or a custom scheme and some new rims and tires. Older dressed up rigs are cooler than stock new ones imo...

It will be a fun project and cost you less to bring the ole hammer head back to life then to purchase a newer CR.:rocking:

Pyro690 01-09-2011 12:46 AM

Keep it. Use the money you would use for payment to put some paint on it. Its only got 295k on it. :tu: :c:

keep the 12v ... If I could do it all over again I would have bought another 12v instead of my 06 cr

JBradley500 01-09-2011 01:52 PM

nothing is worse than car payments. thats why i got rid of my 08 ford and drive a 92 dodge.

Keep the 12 valve man. Im in the restoration process of mine and its got 310,000 on it....Im doing it on good faith that these ol' 12 valve cummins live up to the expectations.

diesel pap 01-09-2011 04:51 PM

Lange503 01-09-2011 04:57 PM

HAYMAFIA 01-09-2011 07:55 PM

that 12 valve will outlast a common rail. restore that 12 valve. if not send me a pm and we can talk about a price.:w2:

FastCR 01-10-2011 12:20 AM

I'd say restore it. start saving some money for a built motor.

BRE 01-10-2011 02:03 AM

You and i friend have the same problems... LOL

EasternAggie 01-10-2011 01:06 PM

If the dodge truck itself is what's gettin wore out, have you considered swapping your engine into something newer with less miles?

Just a thought :tu:

But between your two options, I would keep the 12v and restore it.

white93 01-10-2011 01:45 PM

Keep the 12v. Ive owned newer trucks and came to this conclusion, any diesel with electronics on it is automatically a POS in my book. I know that may upset some people but I have never had good luck with any of the newer stuff across the board, neither have any of my friends.

12.valve.hauler 01-11-2011 09:48 AM

i would keep it. dont see a point in making a payment and then trying to upgrade. you could make your truck like new and three times the truck for what your gonna pay for a common rail..

Goosekiller 01-11-2011 11:03 AM

Restore your 12v!

monster12valve 01-12-2011 06:43 PM

well... i thank everbody for there input:c:.. i have made up my mind!.. march 1st i am starting the resto. ( closing on my new house on march first!) i will do a full build in show and tell section. i am going to sand blast the frame and por15 it. and i think i am going to buy a rust free 1500 v6 2wd and just swap body parts over since my cab is solid. i will be replacing steering parts and i just did all new brakes and hubs and drums. i am thinking about 3rd gen seats also. then get her painted! then the performance:jump:. it will be a full build done rather quick. once again thanks for all the opinions:c:
