timing=more power?

ok this is a dumb question but does timing make my truck run better,smoother, or just more power or all of it. i know dont go past 16* on stock head bolts and etc. :s:

it'll run smoother, cooler egt's, better fuel mileage, quicker spool up,
n i may have this screwed up but i think it causes higher cylinder pressures (hence blown head gaskets) and lower drive pressures.
i have mine at 16.5* with stock gaskets n head bolts

My buddy has his at 18* on stock bolts and gaskets and hasnt had a problem yet. Its only been that way about a month though. He definately gets better gas mileage, and very noticable difference in power.

yes your cylinder pressure does increase with more timing, as for turbo spool when your timing goes up less energy is actually sent to the turbo charger so it would spool slightly slower. dout you could ever feel it going from stock to 15* or 16*

not trying to thread steal, but i really really don't wanna take mine to a shop to have her set. i know i could physically do it, but never doing it before and it being my daily driver has kept me from it. i would love if someone in my area could show me hands on how to adjust timing correctly, this way i could adjust the timing myself later as more modifications call for it.

thanks for the info id like better fuel mileage for sure and how much does it round about cost to have it

cummins95 12-02-2010 05:18 AM

i bought the tools n did it myself. i think they cost me like 180. n its really easy to do
