12 valve timing
 
ive set the timing twice to 16.5* and drive it up the road snd it slips and wont hardly pull its self it pops and white smokes real bad i clean the shaft with brake cleaner and put a new lock washer on it and it still slips any ideas and also how hard is it to change the front cover its craked the back front cover

What are you torquing nut to? I torqued mine to 180. I think it tells you 140 or something cant remember. Used old nut and lock washer and torqued to 180 and no problems for the last few months.

book says 144 ft/lbs I take mine to 150 you don't wanna go to high or you can strip the thread off the nut ( been there done that).

Thought it was in the 140 area. I thought 180 was high but a couple guys I talked to took theres to 190. I have one of those digital snap on torque wrenches and set it at 175 but it flashes a reading when you finally stop and it was at 180.

mine was set to 145
i also found if you do it in one stroke its better

I have done my truck and several others and its 144 lbs and i have always gone there and never (nock on wood) had one slip yet. You have to have the shaft of the pump very very clean. I use ether to clean the shaft, have some one hold the motor and go to like 10 pounds or so to seat the gear and then re gather my self so i have enough room to go to 144 lbs in one clean sweep.

Its not that hard to replace, gotta take and the fan off and all that junk(a good afternoon project) and dont forget to use a new seal for it too
