heating problems
 
ok,having problems,truck heater went out last night and this morning i was gonna pour some water in it and the blackest thickest crap i've ever seen came out of the cap.i came on in to work and it ran hot on me,and when i popped the hood there was steam coming from what looked like the bottom of the motor or somewhere around the floor board,what's goin on?

heater core? is there antifreeze in the oil? any antifreeze on the ground?

not good...1200 bucks should get you a new head gasket and studs installed. id lower that timming, unless you wanna get o-ringed head...22* is high. i have mine set@ 16.75* so it satarts easy in the cold weather and i dont blow my head gasket. but im sure its a matter of time. good luck with it hope thats all it is and nothingmore serous

it could be either or. is there any oil in ur antifreeze? is ur heater blowin at all is it cold if it does. mine done two different things when my head gasket went out.

Could also be the transmission cooler failed. They're an oil-to-water cooler, and all sorts of nasty things can happen if they start allowing the two fluids to mix. It's a horizontal metal tank looking thing on the passenger side of the engine, towards the back, under the turbo/manifold.
