when is this happening all the time or a certain times?

cumminsCrazy 08-31-2010 06:42 AM

all the time it feels like i only have first gear could it be electrical?

posmx 08-31-2010 09:06 PM

i could almost guarantee its the crankshaft positioning sensor (aka throttle positioning sensor) or tps
just replaced mine, wouldnt allow torque converter to lock up or shift into forth, shifts great now...

bobcat67 08-31-2010 09:46 PM

do you have reverse and stuff? cause mine is doing the same thing right now only i can go 40 in first which happens to be the only gear i have

cumminsCrazy 08-31-2010 10:33 PM

i have reverse and that just wont shift outta first

bobcat67 09-01-2010 11:35 AM

Fairmont 09-01-2010 08:19 PM

check your detect cable

cumminsCrazy 09-01-2010 09:13 PM

cable is good if i unplug center plug on the pcm it can shift manually but no overdrive cause thats controlled throught the computer right? does this sound like a computer problem?

a crank sensor is completely different than a throttle positioning sensor. i would check the sticky on how to adjust the tps and see it that helps. but i believe 1st through 3rd are all hydraulically controlled and then electrically controlled in 4th, OD and also torque converter lock up. check the plug on the transmission and find out which wire is the keyed power source for the tranny plug. start there and make sure your transmission is gettin an electrical signal. im not a transmission specialist so unfortunately i cant help a ton but if im remembering correctly (1st-3rd being hydraulic) id say you have some sort of internal transmission problem.

have someone in the truck shift it through the gears and lay underneath it and make sure the tv cable is moving as it should. it might just be jamming and only allowing it in first
