delivery valve help

im working on swapping my 160hp pump delivery valves with 181s out of a 215, first the ones im put in are marked 181 but the ones i pulled out of mine are marked 167, i thought they were 131s? also the 215 had NO washers or shims in the barrels but mine has a thin washer or shim below the holder. they are not copper as far as i can tell, should i take them out or leave them? any help asap would be great i want to get this done

the truck is a early 95 with an auto tranns

Take the shims out and leave them out. You def have 131's there is no such thing as a 167.

Also useing the 181 holder and 131 valve will give you alil more fuel than just the 181's alone... Thats up to you

ok thanks, i have heard that the 160 had two different dvs so thats y i thought they werent 131s, i also was wondering if it was normal to find some metal shavings in the barrels? both pumps had them. mine is hard starting when its cold in the winter and i pop-tested my injectors and cleaned them so im thinking maybe my pump is going out. i was running used motor oil atf and deisel for around 10k

12vcummins96 04-29-2010 02:26 PM

atf is bad dont run it as forthe shavings could be from the oil and atf

cumminspwr11 04-29-2010 02:42 PM

i dont run it much anymore, i stay home and take care of the baby. i heard the used oil was bad for the pumps because of the carbon thats in it

i got the dvs all done and modified my afc housing runs great but seems to stumble a bit around 1500, maybe the timing? although its not near as bad as when i put the 90hp injectors with stock timing and a #5 plate. fuel psi is between 15-20

12vcummins96 04-29-2010 02:45 PM

pressure is low 25 to 35 is what it needs to be

cumminspwr11 04-29-2010 02:50 PM

i still have the stock ofv from 95, could that be the problem? or could i take it apart and stretch the spring? fuel filter has less than 1000miles and i cleaned the pre-filter screen at the same time

12vcummins96 04-29-2010 02:53 PM

theoverflow valve could be it or a weak fuel pump

cumminspwr11 04-30-2010 02:08 PM

whats the best way to figure out if its the ofv or pump?

Red_Rattler 04-30-2010 02:14 PM

Pinch the return line off and see if the pressure builds then rev the truck and watch the gauge to see if it falls. No fall bad ofv if it does weak pump

cumminspwr11 05-01-2010 08:26 PM

so i pinched the line a little bit and the fuel pressure was still around 10psi at idol and then went up to maybe 25 when i pushed to 3500rpm, i then pinched it all the way and when i got on it, it went straight to 0??? maybe just somthing i did wrong, i replace the lift pump around 5yrs ago with a new one from Pensacola Diesel, the outlet line was a bit differnt hook up so i had to rig up so home depote brass fittings, hose clamps, and fuel hose, maybe thats my problem???

167's and 131's are the same.

cumminspwr11 05-01-2010 10:58 PM

ah i see, whats your guys opinions on the 4 hole 90hp injectors? i know of another set i could get and swap them out but they are really big supposebly, they came off a truck done by A to Z Diesel here locally in mesa, the tech that pulled them said they were too much but im wondering if they were too much because he was also running a race p pump and completely built motor and a different cam. he has like 18k into the motor build to give you an idea of whats done to it

cumminspwr11 05-03-2010 11:43 AM

so i was online looking at performace parts for the p-pumps and found new delivery valve holders that are much bigger than the stock ones, they are the things that you need a special socket to remove and the new ones are six sided not splinded, my question is-i thought they were shimed and fit to a paticular barrel??? or are the spring things inside are whats shimed to each barrel?
