figure this one out!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a 94 12valve 5spd i recently blew a headgasket on it, soooo i figured since i had it apart i would mod it.
i did the kdp fix
quickspool manifold 191dv's 75horse ddp injectors head studs airdog 165 4gsk 60lb springs htt64/71/14 turbo vulcan boots an clamps since i put all this stuff on the truck it will not give it enough fuel to spool turbo, i am only getting a small amount of black smoke i have the timing set at 16* i have checked for boost leaks i have tryed taking out the fuel plate i have pretty much tryed every thing,, what would cause this to happen i am stumped!!!

ArizonaRedneck 03-29-2010 01:06 AM

only thing i can think of right off the bat is your fuel pressure good :humm:

captain_stabbin 03-29-2010 01:39 AM

yes, i have tryed 2 other and they say the same thing!!

94 12valve 03-29-2010 05:58 AM

:humm:fuel filter?

biged681985 03-29-2010 04:47 PM

when u put the 4k kit in, u did tighten them up right didnt u?

Red_Rattler 03-29-2010 05:08 PM

Afc functioning correctly? Does it have a good boost reference?

captain_stabbin 03-29-2010 07:21 PM

fuel filters brand new!!! the afc is workin as it should! the gov springs was a easy install also!!

Benjamin 03-29-2010 07:35 PM

did you check the wastegate and make sure it is closed when there is no boost pressure?

see below response

:humm::humm::humm::humm::humm::humm:

Benjamin 03-29-2010 08:14 PM

i just read this again.

IIRC on the 1994 setup there was a hose that ran from the AFC housing to the turbo itself. on the newer motors, like my 96 the hose went to the intake plate. if the hose on the back of the top of the AFC housing is not seeing boost then that will give you symptoms you are describing.....

Red_Rattler 03-29-2010 08:53 PM

Exactly... No boost no afc movement. That's why I brought it up...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Does it still havethe factory spring in it? How tight is the star wheel cranked?

Benjamin 03-29-2010 08:57 PM

i was asking if the factory line was hooked up. it is different on the 94's compared to the 96 ..... using an aftermarket turbo will require this line to be hooked up somewhere for a boost reference....

ahhh, that makes sense!!!! i was wonderin bout that line that went from afc to the turbo!! do i need to runn that line to afc housing?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

and no, its not hooked up, the waste gate line is goes to from housing on turbo!!

Red_Rattler 03-29-2010 09:44 PM

There's your problem... You can tap the line off of the afc into the intake horn like a boost gauge is. But without a boost ref for the afc the pump will not fuel correctly.

captain_stabbin 03-29-2010 09:50 PM

sorry correction, the line from the afc to the head is connected

94 12valve 03-29-2010 11:09 PM

are there two hoses comming off the afc housing ( 1 to the intake on the head and the other to the turbo)? since your not using the wastegate line anymore you need to plug that off or the afc foot will never move.

no, there is only one line connected to afc housing, from the head. the htt turbo has the line goin from the waste gate to the front housing on the turbo!!!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i blew air in the wastegate line to make sure wastegate wasn't stuck an the rod moves fine!!!

2500HeavyDuty 03-30-2010 01:08 AM

boost leak somewhere?

brain buster eyyyyy:yeah:

Red_Rattler 03-30-2010 05:54 AM

Ok that still doesn't mean it's working correctly... You never answered on how tight u have the star wheel? How about the smoke screw ever adjust that? Hook up compressed air to the boost ref port on the afc housing to see if it actually moves the foot. The looser the starwheel the sooner the rack travels allowing full fueling sooner.

captain_stabbin 03-30-2010 05:11 PM

i haver already done all that too the afc housin the foot moves fine!!! the smoke screw has been adjusted numerous times!!! dosn't seem to matter if its one way or the other, an as far as fuel plate i have taken it out an still makes no difference!!!

only thing i have changed when i put truck back together is put airdog on there 191dv's and injectors

Red_Rattler 03-30-2010 05:32 PM

Settle down I'm just trying to help... The AirDog is supplying at least 40psi?

captain_stabbin 03-30-2010 08:31 PM

im calm bro, just irritating hearing the same stuff over an over... the airdog puts out 50psi but bounces back and fourth when i free rev the motor to 1500rpms its wierd, i have tryed 3 diff gauges, an same thing. its noisy too. not sure what thats all about!

Benjamin 03-30-2010 08:43 PM

bounces back and forth between what PSI readings

Red_Rattler 03-30-2010 10:07 PM

Shouldn't be noisey, AirDog made their setup so it wouldn't be. After I installed mine I had to get outa the truck and crawl under to make sure it was running! All of these parts were brand new?

94 12valve 03-30-2010 11:15 PM

when there noisey like that it normally means there is air in the system somewhere

12valvetater 03-31-2010 12:24 AM

Have you changed the filter lately it could be staving the pump for fuel. Pressure and flow do not go hand in hand.

captain_stabbin 03-31-2010 08:12 AM

the pressure bounces back an fourth from 50 to 40. the airdog is brand new!!! and the filters have been changed but did look clean when pulled off. it acts like it never has a load on it when you turn it on..

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

and as far as air in the system i just cant see that possible i have bled the system so many times..

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

:humm:

94 12valve 03-31-2010 11:24 AM

did you check the fuel return lines? I know the kit does not replace them

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

did you prime the AD and make sure the filters are tight? they only screw them on for shipping

captain_stabbin 03-31-2010 06:16 PM

i put brand new return lines on there!! yes sir the filters are tight!!!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

:w2:

Red_Rattler 03-31-2010 07:18 PM

Alrighty so it has fuel and the pump is new. What about the injectors? New?

captain_stabbin 03-31-2010 07:39 PM

yes sir the injectors are brand new, i had them pop tested just to make sure they were ok!

94 12valve 03-31-2010 10:36 PM

have you checked to make sure your gov arm is not stuck under the plate?

wes-cummins 04-01-2010 06:07 AM

mabey somthing insided the governer assembly isnt working properly.

biged681985 04-01-2010 09:57 AM

how positive are you that you have the gov. springs tightened correctly? did you make sure u got everyone of the shims out? theres a few of them that are a real pia to get out.

ok, well answer me this then. the truck will pull to 4k even with only 4lbs of boost. if it were the gov springs would it pull that high?

Shea@L&N Performance 04-01-2010 12:53 PM

Is the turbo getting lubrication?
