nv4500

what is the difference in the chevy and dodge nv4500,i found one for a chevy real cheap, and i was wondering what i'll have to do to put it in.

what year chevy trans? pre 97 IIRC chevy trans have different 1st gear ratio. All chev's have different mainshaft, 5th gear/tailshaft housing, bellhousing and TOB hydraulics. There are other small differences but those are the big ones.

I thought he chevys had the nv 3500?

1/2 tons and some 3/4s with the 350 had 3500s. All 6.5s as far as I know had 4500s and I believe all big block 3/4 and 1 tons had the 4500.

additionally, the 6.5 4500s have a harmonic damper on the end of the mainshaft, which is what dodge should have done and the 5th gear nut problem wouldn't have happened.

buddy just asked me the same question. he got a 4500 out of a k3500 bigblock cheby and wants to put it in his 97. he already found a new bellhousing, and is looking at upgraded inputshafts when he orders his clutch. was also probly gona just stick the chevy tcase in it also and make mods from there.

keep this thread goin, want to know more if possible.

my 2500 with the 6.5l before the swap had a 4500 in it. i wouldve used it if it wouldnt have been blown

My buddies 4500 he put in his old school came from a chevy. It has a different shift lid and shifter than a dodge does.

interesting. Mine came out of a 97 k2500. the late chevy 4500 is really the way to go on a swap, just drop the cummins input shaft in it and bellhousing and clutch and your set. much much much smoother and nicer trans than the early dodge one I took out awhile ago, and wound up costing almost as much after changing to chevy mainshaft and getting an adapter plate machined to a passenger drop np241.

For a dodge though, probably just stick with the dodge trans. The mainshaft swap is a pretty shitty deal and you have to check the runout on the input shaft. Sell the chevy trans for more than its worth to someone wanting one for an offroad rig and buy a dodge trans.

mine was a 95. maybe someone swaped the trans before I got it but mine had a 3500 in it
