Axle left me on the side of road
Guys, any diagrams or helpful info on why my drivers side rear dually axle on my 94 Dodge came out while driving tonight? Had to get a tow and am fearing the guts are toast. Is this ..common.. ?

Yes, its kinda unbelievable to me that it did, but I can see the axle shaft coming out the axle tube, I can see my brake drum pads, and it looks like both tires are outside my fender. What has happened here?

it should be a full floating axle. it should be held on by 8 bolts and thats it. maybe all your bolts somehow backed out and it slid out. thats the only theory i can think of
or if you toasted some bearings and the backlash nuts backed all the way off and everything went haywire you could have the whole hub fall off. but all of the coming off including the retaining clips is like next to impossible |

Yes, When the wrecker hoisted the back end up both drivers side tires were outside of fender, still bolted to the hub/drum assembly with the axle shaft connected. What keeps the hub from coming off? THe wrecker driver tried to tell me that the only thing keeping this from happening is a dowel retaining system inside the pumpkin, but that seems way to weak to be the only thing keeping my wheels from coming off. Just to start looking, anyone in Cincinnati area have dually rear end?

Bearing / nut failure? :humm: I would think the bearing let go. :pca1:

nut backed off proabbly due to bearing failure.

I just saw this happen to a 3/4 ton about a month ago. And yeah whatever retains the shaft in the pumpkin failed.
