EGT question?
 

This might sound like a dumb question, when you guys install the sensor into the manifold do you take the manifold off to drill the hole or just leave it on. I dont want to take it off to drill it, but i dont want to have the drill shavings sucked through the turbo.

you just start the truck and drill while its running and then put grease on the die and it catches the metal then when done take a little magnet and take all that fell in out of the manifold

You will get alot of different answers on this. You can do it both ways though. I've done three trucks with the turbo still on with no ill effects. What I did was put white lithum grease (thick and sticky) on the drill bit and (sharper it is the better) drilled at a low speed and the grease caught the shavings. Then to tap it I did the same thing with the grease. Then with the probe still out i started the truck to blow what might had dropped in out. Then installed the probe.

Drill with engine running. Shut it off, grease on tap. I cleaned the tap and re-greased it 3 times when I did mine. Start it up again to blow out any chips that fell in and install probe. Don't drill through the middle of the turbo mount, there is a divider. :c:

Go to the back side of the manifold.

I did mine with it running. There's actually a lot of pressure there while it's running.

left mine on too..... just use grease.......

i have had questions on it but im going to do them all like that..... its very simple

Never took mine off either. Had a buddy stand with a shop vac to suck up all the chips as I drilled. Then used grease on the tap. Stuck the little magnet through the tapped hole. And then used some grease on a q tip to catch any little chips that may have bene missed (yes thats kind of extreme). Worked great for me.

I just pull the center section & cold side as one unit off the turbo leaving the turbine housing and downpipe still connected to the manifold. Drill & Tap, blow out with air, pop the loose half of the turbo back on and go. Leaving it running works fine...I'm just a little too cautious maybe.:humm:
