Crankshaft Position Sensor Round 2

hey guys i replaced this dang sensor not even a week ago and everything went back to working again. alternator, all lights inside and out, tachometer, cruise control. but anyways i was making a flying trip through town last night to go pick up the wife from work and get her to the hospital and my tach started going crazy again, lights started dimming, alternator gauge started to zero out. i mean all the same symtoms i had with it the first go around. i havent gotten to pull it out yet and look at it but the first one was shorted out before the plug. any ideas why it would be acting up again?? any advice is very much appreciated!!

engine grounds?? bent/loose/rotten harmonic balancer

Voltage regulator on the altenator. The ecm is regulated to 5.1 volts so if the voltage regulator is bad it can cause some weird stuff to happen to the ecm

i was under the impression that the ecm was the regulator for my truck? i have a massive front seal leak. could this be apart of my problems you think?

tne ecm is the regulator and yes an oil leak could cuase it also check that dampner if it coming apart it could throw it off

The ecm is not the regulator so to speak there's a little black box on the back of the alernator that's part of the wiring to the alternator that's the regulator it keeps everything below 14 volts. As with any generator the faster it spins the more juice it produces and seeing that an alternator is an fancy generator it needs to be regulated the harmonic balancer if it has failed wich the commonly do when hp is increased can do all sorts of crazy crap. An oil leak unless its leaking directly onto the cps is not likley the cause but since all the guages and lights are going crazy I am apt to think its the regulator

i figured it out last night. the oil leak is my problem. it is completely covering my sensor in oil. i took it out cleaned it off and back to working again. i am gonna replace that front seal this weekend. i appreciate all the help guys
