boost psi?

when you are just on the high way wat is a good psi? is there a certain psi that gives better mpg? does it matter where the boost gauge is? mine is under the intake horn on the motor so i get the actuall boost in the engine right

diesel pap 06-30-2009 05:33 PM

my truck gets better mpgs the lower the boost

bowtech 06-30-2009 05:48 PM

how that work?

rkadcock 06-30-2009 06:42 PM

The lower the boost means that your putting less strain on the engine and not making it work as hard. I'm pushing about 15-18 psi when on the highway doing 90. If your cruising around 75 you should expect 8-10 psi.

more fuel is needed to reach higher boost so in theory less boost meens that you are not dumping as much fuel in the cylinders. i rund 4-10 psi running 70-75 with egt's at about 550 to 650.

o my waste gate is not blocked yet and its pushin around 27 psi floored and its a stock turbo. i have a adjustable boost elbow on the way should i not put it on?

xzaq103 06-30-2009 09:43 PM

Yeah put it on.

im running about 10-15 psi and 900-1000* at 65mph

bowtech 06-30-2009 11:15 PM

with more psi it will run cooler and more power? if that not right some one school me about turbos and the boost

rkadcock 06-30-2009 11:45 PM

Thats somewhat true. For example, the stock charger is only good for about 35 psi, yes it'll go over it, but after 35 psi it runs hot and blows hot air which doesn't really help you out. So until the charger starts blowing hot air, more boost is good.
