boost psi?

when you are just on the high way wat is a good psi? is there a certain psi that gives better mpg? does it matter where the boost gauge is? mine is under the intake horn on the motor so i get the actuall boost in the engine right

diesel pap 06-30-2009 05:33 PM

my truck gets better mpgs the lower the boost

bowtech 06-30-2009 05:48 PM

how that work?

rkadcock 06-30-2009 06:42 PM

The lower the boost means that your putting less strain on the engine and not making it work as hard. I'm pushing about 15-18 psi when on the highway doing 90. If your cruising around 75 you should expect 8-10 psi.

more fuel is needed to reach higher boost so in theory less boost meens that you are not dumping as much fuel in the cylinders. i rund 4-10 psi running 70-75 with egt's at about 550 to 650.

o my waste gate is not blocked yet and its pushin around 27 psi floored and its a stock turbo. i have a adjustable boost elbow on the way should i not put it on?

xzaq103 06-30-2009 09:43 PM

Yeah put it on.

sidekick 06-30-2009 10:18 PM

im running about 10-15 psi and 900-1000* at 65mph

bowtech 06-30-2009 11:15 PM

with more psi it will run cooler and more power? if that not right some one school me about turbos and the boost

rkadcock 06-30-2009 11:45 PM

Thats somewhat true. For example, the stock charger is only good for about 35 psi, yes it'll go over it, but after 35 psi it runs hot and blows hot air which doesn't really help you out. So until the charger starts blowing hot air, more boost is good.

bowtech 07-01-2009 12:32 AM

yeah i know that.

94cummins12v 07-01-2009 01:17 AM

im at roughly 8 when im doing 60

BAD ASS RAM 07-01-2009 07:55 AM

i run about 6-7 psi @ 60 and about 700-800*

bowtech 07-01-2009 12:52 PM

when i set the cruise control on 75 its around 10 psi when its fueling to maitain speed

BAD ASS RAM 07-01-2009 01:00 PM

that's about right

don't block your wastegate put the elbow on and have control ... oh and when I had my bullet on flat ground 60 mph boost was 1-2 psi

bowtech 07-01-2009 04:42 PM

how much i turn it up? i dont want to block it thats why i got the adjustable i have one u cant adjust. i was thinkin on high way trips loosen it out and just crusin around town turp up the psi. wat u think? or just turn it up when pulling?

I agree with 94 12valve dealing with elbow and the numbers is what I see with my Super B

BAD ASS RAM 07-02-2009 06:17 AM

i would set it to hit 35psi max and leave it there.if you need it it will boost it,if it don't it won't.:ok1:

94cummins12v 07-02-2009 11:52 AM

the turbo i just got was set at 40psi so i will leave it for awhile

heins 07-10-2009 02:18 AM

goin down the road at 60 mph im usually buliding 5 lbs at the most.. but when you get to showering down on it, it will hit 50 lbs.. it all depends what tempeture the outside air is
