HOOKIN CHAINS

I have not done much chain hookin, but i did hook up to my buddies 12 valve the other day, hes got the 5spd and i have an auto, what do you guys suggest i pull in? Over drive off or on? and should i start in 1st and manually shift threw the gears? I keep od off most of the time just cruisen around town and up big hills and i only have od on when im on the highway. I am going to put a lock up swich in but i want to upgrade my trans first b4 i blow it up:w2:

collinscummins 03-30-2009 10:34 PM

I would say start out in first gear and leave overdrive off. I have never hooked chains before and i dont really want to as it is so hard on stuff. You should beat him though just because he has a manual.

Red_Rattler 03-30-2009 10:41 PM

I thought you were trying NOT to break your truck :D All you should need is first, don't spin your tires or you will lose, which is why u want him to break traction first then floor it. But with an auto u should win hands down....

Coco2992 03-30-2009 10:45 PM

be ready to throw into N with you start to lose or you will tear up that tranny in a heartbeat:ouch:

392hemix 03-30-2009 11:07 PM

haha, ya. I don't hook up unless i know i will win! i just wanted to make sure i was not hurting the trans and getting the best low end power quick! i know the faster the converter locks up the more trq i will put to the wheels

Coco2992 03-30-2009 11:24 PM

:argh: duhh what was i thinking lol

392hemix 03-30-2009 11:30 PM

you have to love thoes cocky gasser guys.:tttt:

Red_Rattler 03-30-2009 11:31 PM

The tranny will get hot for sure if it lasts alil bit because you will be basicly just preloading it like your doin a boosted launch waitin for the other truck to break loose.. Air your tires down as well for a better and more grippy foot print.

xzaq103 03-30-2009 11:33 PM

SNAP goes your input.... OD locked out and let it shift up as needed. try not to loose traction and make sure you have the cash in your pocket for some new trans parts.

392hemix 03-31-2009 12:07 AM

Nope, i dont. i don't even have money for food.:bike::booo:

Why?? I really want to know.:pca1:

I think its fun, its truck against truck and alot depends on the driver and how you can control wheel spin. But it is also a weight game too.:choochoo:

03maxpower 03-31-2009 12:56 PM

i guess i just dont like the thought of someone else doing something stupid and tearing my truck up. transfer sled pulling if you break it or something happens at least you have no one to blame but yourself and i did say IMO so that might be your thing:c:

Dr. Evil 03-31-2009 04:07 PM

392hemix 03-31-2009 04:14 PM

I agree, Chains are very dangerous, Use a strap if you must tear up your truck, much safer!

stkdram55 04-01-2009 12:12 PM

we use a piece of square tubing when we do it:5:

Also never ever hook anything other than a trailer to your hitch ball. Thats very dangerous as well. Just a warning because some people do dumb things like this.

392hemix 04-01-2009 12:34 PM

4ft of chain? that wont make it to the cab. we use a bean bag to weigh it down too, even if it wer to break worse case its gonna dent a tail gate or something.:ouch:

cashwheel 04-01-2009 12:37 PM

Make sure the hook point on your truck is higher than the other guys and your a pretty safe bet to win. My little cheater trick:U:

Red_Rattler 04-01-2009 03:05 PM

Screw the chain use a snatch strap with metal hooks on the ends.... :D No, seriosly thats a bad idea... :ouch:

Good Way To Ruin Your Day

Diesel-N-Dust 04-01-2009 04:13 PM

392hemix 04-01-2009 07:20 PM
