EGT sensor location
I am installing my gauges tomorrow and don't know where the best location to put the EGT sensor.
Any help would be great. |
The manifold is split into 2 'banks' (front and back, divided between cylinders 123/456). you want the probe to be pre turbo (in the manifold) and in the rear bank. their are specific measurements over at cumminsforum for drilling the hole. But its not really rocket science, i just popped a hole in the manifold fairly central to the rear bank about 1.5" towards the engine from the turbo flange
i was always told to put it on the third cylinder from the front or right before they go into the turbo
i don't know what i am talking about, BUT i saw someplace that said you should have the truck running when you drill the hole, is this correct, i will be installing one before to long also and i really don't want to screw up a turbo, don't have that money laying around!!!
Should be in the middle or more towards the back 3 cylinders, cause they run the hottest.

the back bank of three runs the hotest so ya go there, be careful not to hit the web where the front and back collectors join...............drill and tap the hole with the motor running, easy job no worries mate
thanks guys.:U:
why does the motor need to be running
to avoid getting metal shavings into the turbo. the proper way to do it is by removing the turbo but most people just run the engine or use a shop vac.
the exhust psi will blow the chips out of the hole in stead of them falling in. when i did mine i did it with it off but i put grease on my bit and tap to grab all the shavings and thn looked in the hole with a flashlight to make sure i had them all. if not you can use a stick or something that will fit with some more grease and get the rest out.
