too much power!!
I just put in a 0 plate in my 97, and I slid the fuel plate and afc all the way forward. I ended up with alot more power then I bargained for, my stock clutch wont hold at all. I was wondering what I need to do to turn the power down. I was wondering what would happen if I slid the 0 plate all the way up, would that have a posotive effect?
I'm not much help on the plate, but it sounds like it's about time for a stronger clutch.
Put a plastic bag over the air filter.:lol88:
you could try an slid the back back or turn the starwheel to the left. |
a zero plate is no goverence at all so its all fuel all the time...................yer only regulator there is in the right foot and how much pressure you apply...................a 100 plate is what you need , it will be normal on takeoff the all fuel from there
back the plate off to center and take it easy on yer clutch, once ya slip em its just a matter of time |
Yeah once you slip it once it's hurt... and it will be easier and easier to slip everytime.
yup upgrade the clutch time. Then rock out on the skinny petal
take it from me lol, i got a #0 plate and a few other mods in my truck, and an auto tranny, you don't wanna be paying what i have to soon!!! 47re SUCKS!!! :argh:
that'll learn ya, beef up the trany befor engine, i lerned it the hard way
just slide the plate back to where it was stock. That should kill a good amount of top and low end fuel
ya it will drop the power down but the clutch will still slip, once it slips once there is no stopping it, hook a trailer on it and it will slip, garantee it
if you drive like an idiot with the trailer then yes it will ... with my 94 I have no plate and a tuned afc and a stock clutch that slips whenever I really get into it. I have towed 8-9k with the truck set up like this and the clutch doesnt slip unless I REALLY get into it. I do agree I clutch upgrade would be great but for the time being slide the plate back and you should be fine.
Just slide it back a little and be easy on it down low in the rpm range.
its hard to upgrade cluch or tranny first when u just HAVE to see what ur truck can do

a big single will hold unless your doing boosted launches or hookin to a sled. plus they are more user friendly, double disks are a pain for a daily driver.
For most guys a DD is overkill... You can get an FE to hold 550HP. For a 12V thats gonna take a turbo and a set of injectors on top of the plate and tuned AFC.
not to mention that hey are kinda pricey not only do you have to fork over around 1400 maybe more but for us simple folk with 4500s we have to also get a 600-700 dollar input shaft. i dont know about you guys but i wanted a straight stick to save a little moolaah
i have a big single from KY clutch and it will not hold it is rated around 400hp but i am over that. i do sled pull some and that is why i am going over kill so i wont have to buy another clutch when i decided to go bigger

Well the guys you know with diesels aren't treating them like they're supposed to are they?
And personally, I wouldn't trust KY Clutch... I have a hard enough time trusting Valair. If I'm gonna buy a clutch its gonna be a South Bend, and I would recommend that to anyone looking for one. A 550HP Con FE will hold 550HP as long as you aren't doing whatever it is you and you friends seem to be doing Beets. And if you are doing boosted launches with a Stick, you're glazing the clutch every time you let it slip like that. |
Time to give South Bend Clutch a call.:U:

I was going to go south bend because they are some what close to me and one of the guys up there and he was straight up with me and seemed really good to deal with. |
tune ur afc to where your not dumping fuel, put a different plate in it that doesnt command full fuel all the time
definatly south bend, valair has crapy service and i hate the clutch i got
I loved the Con FE I had in my 97, while it lasted... The truck blew up, but I never slipped the clutch once. It was a little grabby, but it was much easier to drive than the South Bend Dual Disk 3850 puller clutch thats in the 98 I have. Plus, the DD rattles when you have the clutch disengaged, nature of the beast.

Mind if I ask why? They have great service, and millions of miles of testing on there products.
my buddy says there is some plastic piece in them that wears out. when he got his double disk he refused to put a south bend in and went with mcloyd or something like that. plus i think they are over priced
im not a fan on how valair runs things, i orderd a 6speed 13 inch conversion clutch and they forgot to add the starter spacer, and wouldnt refund anything, they were difficult to deal with. i love the clutch other than that, its grabby as hell and you must start out in 1st no exceptions
ive had both valair and southbend dd and the are so similar its not even funny i destroy things often and quicly and id have to say i liked dealing with valair a lil better bith good companys:c:
i havent delt with south bend first hand but i know a couple guys that have and they are willing to go the extra mile to get your buisness and to keep the customer happy:U:
Never had a Valair but I did have a SB Con FE. Never slipped in the 30k I put on it.
