Hard start after #100
 

I ground my stock plate to a 100 the first couple days it was fine. But the day after I done it i lost my fuel cap and the new one didn't vent right.. I started it after a few hrs of sitting one night to let it warm up. it didn't start easy then after a couple min it died. long story short the suction pulled the fuel backwards and I had to re prime the system. now to get it to start now I have to depress the pedal slightly and let it run @ 1000 rpms for a bit then I can let off and it will run fine. If I dont it will not start, and if i don't hold the pedal it will run rough and die. but after a few seconds of run time it will smoth up... i'm going to put a temporary fuel guage on the fuel filter tomorrow to check the pressure. I talked to a mech that deals only with dodge cummins, and he said something about a shaft that may be wore just i bit and have a "sweet spot" in it. He said no big dill just depress the pedal on start up and it will eventually clear it's self up. I wondered if there's a check valve somewhere i may have screwed up with the venting problem.

I pulled the shut off soliniod up, and it hit the plate and seemed to be ok.. the plate was full forward so i don't think it could have slid and messed up the adjustment.

the plate should be full forward all but about 1/4"

So I need to move my plate back? It doesn't have very much adjustment to it.. when I had it off it didn't have much more than a 1/4" slot.. but i'll move it back and see what i got.. Thanks for your help!

When adjusting a fuel plate moving it a little make a lot of difference.

Also, what is your base pump idle at? Should be around 750-800 rpm in gear. Bumping it a little might help with your starting issue.

now it's missing after about 5 min of idle time.. and will slowly die... I have no clue what in the world is going on with it... :argh::argh:

Sounds like air in the system. That suction problem may have caused a rupture in the fuel lines or the diaphram in the fuel lift pump. Have you replaced the fuel lines to the engine recently?

Forgot to update.. It was a loose fuel line, and I was getting air in the lines.. Thanks to everyone for thir help! :c:
