98 12V Steering Problem

its a 98 4x4 ex-cab lngbd. i have replaced everything under the front of this truck and it still has play in the steer-n wheel. question is. does the steer-n box have a worm gear like the old chevys or is my problem something else?:bat:

No its a Dodge problem i think everybody that has a dodge has play in the wheel, they do have some type of screw that i read about but if you mess with it alot of people have had the gear in the box grenade so you would have even a bigger problem.

Im not sure if a steering stabalizer helps with this or not, or that new thing BD has i cant remember what its called:humm:

My truck is the same way. I guess live with it or get a new gear box

If you've already replaced the box and all the tie rods then it's time for a new steering shaft if you want almost all of the play gone.

I put a flaming river shaft in mine. It's greaseable and extremely well made. It took a good amount of play out of my truck's steering.

yep, steering shaft made a pretty big difference in the 96 I had.

crawl under your truck while it's running and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth. look at the gearbox where the pitman arm bolts on, you can either feel, see or will in the near future have play on the sector shaft coming outa the gearbox. put a steering stabilizer on it.

everything I did on my 96 practically made it handle like a sports car...Thuren track bar, polyeurethane bushings on control arms and sway bar, bilstein shocks, steering stabilizer and a flaming river steering shaft. it was unreal and I keep wishing I hadn't sold that thing but...hindsight.:ph:
