12 Valve Info, Shopping

I am finally switching gears. Looking to get rid of my 7.3 and try a 12 valve like I've been waiting for. Just looking for some general info. Is there anything to be careful of? Any special treatment benefit them? Things like that.

Thanks!

Look for info like .. was the KDP ( killer dowel pin ) eliminated or delt with .. look for mods, what have they done, look for trans issues, drive it more than just a mile or two .. your ears will tell ya a lot, if your going to 4x4, make sure you get it to 65-75 mph , make sure its not a death wobble monster ....

If your looking specifically at anything, post some pics and or info and keep us posted, would like to be helpful

You may also want to think about what your plans are in advance, the newer the 12V the better the P7100, (ie) you get into the 180 and 215 pumps. One thing I was totally caught off guard with on my first was the guy that owned it had had a 93 engine swapped in to a 95 and do not ask me how but was convinced by the shop that did it, that he was better off leaving it alone than swapping the P pump into the lower mileage motor. Me being green took it for a rip never looked at the pump until after I had bought it and went WTF.

I hear ya ..

Mine was a Mechanic special .... dropped them from 7200 to 5500 ..

Only to find out, front end was shot, TC was bad, Exh. manifold was cracked, exhust was junk(w/cat & muff) ... I'm @ 2300 bucks in and I could easily go 10K and not be where i would like to be ..

I won't tell you how cheap I got mine then lol. I put a box on it and waited forever for a paint job that was owed to me only to get it back and the tranny was on its way out. Had that built by a buddy.
