TCS input WTF?

so i finally got all the parts rounded up to put this transmission back together. went to drop the pump on and it wouldnt go down. stuck like chuck. finally get it all ripped back out of the tranny and find that the input is wedging on the stator bushing. after measuring 2 stock inputs i have under the bench, i find the the new billet is .004 fatter at the bushing area. the stockers slide right in no problem. the TCS no matter how nice or violent i am with it doesnt like the .004 difference.

first has anyone had this problem and second do they make a thinner stator bushing that addresses this problem?

I believe that's why most end up with the 48re pump ... input size ...:humm:

turbo2332 03-31-2014 07:26 PM

no they are the same size input shaft. the deminsions were off .004 from TCS. kinda big debackle today getting things straightened out. overnighting me one that is in spec.

stock is 1.242
tcs spec is 1.423
and what i got was a 1.426

who knows what happened. hopefully this new one will fit in the damn hole.

Oh .. thats not good .... well .. keep us posted ...

transmission is back together and going. new input shaft fit like the first on should have. small TC lincage issue and back in business.

4x4manonbroke 04-06-2014 05:16 PM

Nice ... was the first shaft just a fluke mackining issue ??? :humm:

what is the spline count on the out put of a 48 re ? looking into a frankinstein build here real soon :humm:

turbo2332 04-06-2014 06:31 PM

28 spline. and must have been there spec was .001 over stock and the one they send was .004 over their own spec. new one slid right in. Who knows was prolly machined on a friday afternoon or something. and the 47's and 48's are super close to each other.

4x4manonbroke 04-06-2014 07:20 PM

ahh ... so the output is 28 splined ... good to know .... thanks ...

looking into putting my 12v in my F250 4x4 .. so thinking about t-case's and whick ones gonna fit ???

Ford has a Borg warner 1345 ... not too sure what the dodges run but the diff on the Ford is drivers side drop ... gonna be interesting
