High EGTS HELP

Hows it going guys i am new to this forum. I have a 1996 cummins 12v. I can not seem to get my EGTs down. if you guys have any suggestions please let me know. just cruising around my egts run around 800-900. if im doing around 85mph they are like at 1100. if i step on it i hit 1600* with no problem. my EGT gauge only goes up to 1600. I really dont like the truck getting that hot. In the future i am doing 150 sticks, airdog 150, 62mm turbo, head studs and thats about it. how do i LOWER these EGTS please help

In my truck i have hx35/40 hybrid turbo, boost elbow 39lbs of boost, 60lb valve springs, 4gsk,#10 fuel plate,KDP removal, AEM dry flow intake, 4 inch exhaust to 8 inch single stack,191 DV.

That is a bit high on egt's
I would remove the 4000 governor springs and go 3000 and see if that helps.
I would start to think your 191 dv are another reason you egt's are high. How about putting in smaller dv's and see if that helps. The big dv and 4000 springs are pumping a lot of fuel.

Yeah , sounds kike over fuel and starving for volumes of air , psi dosent relate to volume just restrictions in tye flow .... you might want to think about a turbo with a larger turbo ...... timing will also help .... what is ur timing set at ?

Turbo and timing would be my suggestion as well. I wouldn't go dialing performance stuff down, not before trying to make the best of them. Some more specialized pump tuning could probably help too.

My timeing is the stock setting i am going to advance it to 16* and see what this does for me.
My friend has the same exact truck with the same things done to it but he has an airdog150 and a different fuel plate witch is a #6. and his truck is a 5 speed. His truck will not go past 1300 EGTS. why would his be so different than mine

do you have the same brand pyrometer? is it installed properly and in the same spot as his?

its because of the timing , the sooner you put fuel in the longer it lingers in the cylinder and the more complete its burned , it will also reduce smoke as well...

okay i will let you know how it goes when i advance the timeing. Another question is i want to do injectors now that is going to make it run even hotter so now how would i keep the EGTs down after doing injectors?

turbo2332 10-01-2013 04:57 PM

you could have an injector problem so egt's might not be an issue. i would run 5x12's with a hybrid charger.
