trying to make my 12 valve smoke a bit
ive got a 98 5 speed 12 valve. trying to give it somemore power as cheap as i can for right now. aswell as make it smoke a decent amount. what ive done so far is put a '0' fuel plate in it, cranked the starwheel a few clicks towards the motor, and slid the afc housing all the way forward. from what ive read it should smoke pretty good. but it hardly smokes at all just a bit at idle when you step on it. as far as performance its increased a fairly large amount ive also got a k&n cold air and AFE intake horn. with 4 inch turbo back exhaust. any subjestions? thanks! cheers:c:

people can say what they want as far as im concerned i want to be able to smoke out any intersection i want but still have it controllable when im pulling trailers or just driving. its weird it wont smoke thow, i have a tuned pump a #10 plate and a 3000 gsk and if i floor it i can roll some decent smoke.

Ya man ive got buddys with 12 valves and all they did was grind the plate and the things roll like no tomorrow! I just want mine to smoke when i want it to i guess il just have to upgrade the injectors in the spring! Or maybe just crank up the smokke screw in the back of the afc housing but i dont want to do that untill i get an egt guage rigged up

try putting the star wheel full forward thatll open the smoke up. sounds like youve got it running pretty efficient for now though, too much fuel and youll be delaying spool up
|
I was watching a video about the starwheel but it was just on youtube so the guy might have no clue what hes talking about but he was saying dont go over 5 clicks on a stock cummins, but ive also read people saying its ok to crank it fully forward. Cranking the starwheel will that gave it smoke preboost or during? Thanks for the info fellas! Appreciate it

RESEARCH. SEARCH FUNCTION. Backing off the star wheel softens the spring which makes it more sensitive to boost pressure and move the foot sooner. If you want smoke there's a screw in the back of the AFC. This will allow more fuel before the turbo spools up. As far as what a stock truck will handle... IF YOU CAN'T PAY DON'T PLAY. Keep it stop and drive it. Upgrade the valve body first. Then the converter. Then add some power to it.
