Blown turbo??? How did this happen???
So I put in a new #5 fuel plate in my 97 12v and started hearing a rough grinding sound but just thought it was the trany starting to go but then I'm driving and the sound gets louder until boom no more boost. Anyone know what happened??? I got the plate forms dynamite diesel and it came with an extra spring and a boost elbow. I put the boost elbow on the turbo but now I think that was the mistake cuz the hole in the new elbow is way smaller than the original one. So if anyone has an old turbo laying around that i could get for cheap. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

how many miles were on the turbo. a turbo is a wear item, they go bad with age.
they just wear out like anything else my h1c went out after 275k and was puting out 35psi
It had about 250k on it but it was only pushing about 22 psi. You don't think it was the boost elbow??
absolutely not. a 1/4 million miles on a part that sees extreme temp changes all its life is pretty good in my book.
So how can I tell for sure the turbo I blown?
pull it off the truck and looked it over. check shaft play it may have wore out and seized up because a bad bearing. might be able to just remove the air inlet house from the air breather and see if its seized.

Sounds like time for an upgrade :tu:
Don't forget you can rebuild them fairly easy and inexpensive too. :c:

Any suggestions on upgrades??
