What will a stock Trans hold?

My buddy is looking at an lbz is the near future and has all the plans for what he wants to do but he hasn't thought of a Trans upgrade. I'm a dodge guy but I know the Allison is a bad ass transmission and I'm wondering what the Trans is capable of handling before he needs to build one

Yep its badass, but it can only do so much for so long, once the engine is modded....like any other truck. Will also depend on the mileage on that rig as well as the maintenance intervals, and abuse or the lack thereof etc. WHat is his intentions?

I think just to have a quick street truck. We both plan on doing a little track racing but general purpose we will both still pull small trailers. And daily drive. He just wants a Duramax that will compete with my dodge so it'll be in the mid 400's or 500's

At that point just do the trans and don't even question it. That kind of power will toast that trans in a hurry.:pca1:

Bout 100hp total is all it will handle for any length of time.

Mine did great all the way to 300k with a light tow tune and grossing over 30k frequently. I had a Mike L cooler kit, amsoil torque drive fluid drained ever 30k, spin on changed ever 10k, internal changed every 100k. Saw 300* a few times. I could limp the converter loaded heavy if I stomped it in 2nd, unloaded it wasn't an issue.

Google tends to be allot faster than forums for easy questions. 1 ft lb after its rated input torque and its life is in your hands. :pca1:

Allison 1000 Transmission - GM Diesel Trucks - Diesel Power Magazine

Attached a pic, just sayin.

Everyone on Google has a different opinion I was hoping to hear from someone with more experience than me. The only thing I know about auto transmissions in diesels is that dodge can't make one

Only pointed you to google cause you asked what a stock part will hold, everything has a tq rating and allisons are bad bitches, they will run at rating all day everyday and love it. Always wondered if dodge trannys would have a better record if yall listened to their tq rating :humm:. Im just as guilty as everyone else as running my shit to hard but I only exceed the ratings of things I can afford to replace :choochoo:

The 48re is a good sturdy trans, however the cummins is a bad mutha and will easily over-torque the trans, especially if ya add hp to the cummins, then the trans is just a ticking time bomb. IMO, a well built cummins, mated to an Allison, and stuffed into a ford super duty would make the ultimate truck. I know, I know this post has no relevance......just ranting. :w2:

Haha we have a pretty slick fummins Rollin through our town but it's got an nv5600 instead of an Allison. It'll blow your mind first time it passes you then you'll see the Cummins badge
