3rd Gen Tech: Cummins Grill logo
I debadged my 2007 truck a while back, and have been trying to come up with something to replace the Dodge emblem on the front grille. I decided to put the Cummins “C’ on the grille.
This is what I came up with, and how I did it.. http://i28.tinypic.com/3346ced.jpg First, I had to cut of the “Turbo Diesel” part. I used a cut off wheel, starting from the back of the emblem low enough not to get into the actual “C”. It helps to put the “Turbo Diesel part in a vise to hold it. http://i31.tinypic.com/zti5hw.jpg This is what it looked like after cutting. Can’t stress enough to be sure you are low on the “C”, if you use this method, because the plastic gets hot and melts a little. http://i32.tinypic.com/v4segx.jpg Next, I did some sanding and then some trimming with a sharp knife. http://i29.tinypic.com/35nde7l.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/34988d4.jpg\ This is what it looks like. http://i32.tinypic.com/v4segx.jpg I used some goo gone to clean up the back side of the “C” http://i31.tinypic.com/2ugm7v9.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/143zthl.jpg Here it is cleaned up http://i32.tinypic.com/ojifbo.jpg Next, I removed the Ram emblem using fishing line. I then separated the Ram head from the black background piece. I used the knife to trim away the snap sockets so I’d have a flat surface to mount the “C”.
http://i30.tinypic.com/2rhy05j.jpg I cleaned the glue and sticker residue off the grille. http://i29.tinypic.com/kdlnhd.jpg I masked off the emblem area, and began to paint it black. This will help blend the black background piece into the grille. http://i29.tinypic.com/11aih6q.jpg After a couple coats of Gloss Black http://i32.tinypic.com/nq4h0k.jpg The “C” is flat, and the black background piece is curved a little, so I used a dark gray RTV to glue it to the black background piece. I let the RTV dry overnight. This is how it looks so far. http://i28.tinypic.com/2091ugn.jpg After letting it dry overnight (It’s not completely dry, but good enough to work with). I used the same RTV to glue it to the truck. Here’s the finished piece. http://i27.tinypic.com/2pysyg0.jpg Daylight pics: http://i26.tinypic.com/4gp1s0.jpg http://i28.tinypic.com/144b8g8.jpg http://i29.tinypic.com/2dqsjsj.jpg As always, feel free to comment or ask questions! |
Looks badass, try getting a shot from the front about 4' out looking towards the grill.

no offense... but you turned on the little "flower" on your camera when trying to take detailed up close shots, it will not be blurry and you will get the killer shot you are going for.
