Cleaned EGR valve- still won't start

I cleaned the EGR valve. The truck will fire but will not stay running and is belching black smoke. Have cleaned the fuel filter and checked pump. Have also checked the glow plug fuse and it was okay. I am now at a complete lose. Does anyone have any suggestions??:madd:

there are ports on the valve that you need to cover up so you dont get carb cleaner or whatever you used in the valve.. by chance did you not cover up those holes:humm:

This valve will get sooted up and not open and close right causing your rig to run poorly. The dealers have been told to stop replacing them and just to pull them and clean them so for you DIYers, this can be done in 20 minutes in your driveway.
First of all locate the EGR (shown in the pic.)
The red lines are not stock so don't get confused, these are water/Meth injection lines

1)unplug the wires.
2)remove 2 10 mm bolts
3)This is the fun part. I use a large set of water pump pliers, crawl up on my knees and position myself above the valve, get ahold with the pliers on the metal housing on the valve and pull up while i twist and wiggle (I don't twist and wigle, i twist and wiggle the EGR valve, but you knew that right?).
It takes a fair amount of strength so if you are not able to get it, maybe a buddy can help. Once you think it won't come out, keep trying and all the sudden it pops loose.
Take the valve and spray it with a can of carberator cleaner or brake clean - use a toothbrush to help get it clean.
4)Theres 2 O-rings that you can replace before you reinstall it IF they look bad, i didn't replace mine and haven't had a problem. Now reverse the procedure and reinstall it.
If you have a EGR code in the PCM you will have to get that cleared but she should run better now.

good write up man..... just to add a little a slide hammer works really well for removing the egr. about 2-3 hits and it was out :yeah:

Use a prybar or an alignment bar with a 90* bend on one end. take the two 8mm (not 10mm) out of the EGR valve. Rotate the valve slightly, place the 90* end of the bar under one of the mounting tabs. Pry up slightly, and POP! out it comes. Pick it up, and throw it i the trashcan. Call and order a CX-2020 from for an 05 up truck, or a CX-2056 for pre-05 trucks. Ford no longer endorses cleaning the EGR valves, not to mention the fact that it doesn't work.:U:
