Polishing Aluminum ?'s
I seen alot of pics of polished valve covers and air intake horns. how do you get them to be that shiny. i have a polishing wheel for our 4" grinder and i have been using some polishing compound. but i cant get them to be that shiny and was wondering how to get them like a mirror.
I know it will entail alot of work but i like how it turns out.
thanks

You need the buffing wheel with the right kinds of compounds. What you are lookin for is the clay bars. If you have them cleaned up already and all the marks out of them that you want done use the bar called Jewelers Rouge for the final smoothing it out and the white bar that is a coloring compound to put the shine to it. I know the Sears stores and JC Whitney carries this stuff in the smaller bars.
When you have it they way you want it with some huntin you can find some heat resistant clear coat to keep it lookin nice.

What Uncle B said...
I buy most if not all of my metal polishing stuff from Caswell plating: Plating Kits Electroplating Kits Aluminum Anodizing Kits Powder Coating Systems Metal Polishing And Buffing Supplies - Caswell Inc..
They are REALLY helpful people. They also have a great forum where people will help you solve any issues you may be having. I've polished wheels, exaust, etc with thier products and assistance. With their help, I've never had a problem turning a tarnished part to a mirror shine.
